Retiring the e90 from DD duty

Decided to add a second car to the fleet and retire the e90 from dd duty. 2006 325i, 205,000 miles and running strong, so planning on keeping it as part of the collection, still one of my favorite cars on the road to the drive. Can't imagine NOT having access to a e90.

The new dd, f10 535i.

Nice man... Thought about grabbin an F10 535 myself.. I've been keeping my eye open for a white one with all the packages, but they aren't too common around here..

Congrats on the F10. They definitely do not drive like an E90 but they are great family/highway cruisers. The N55 doesn't get much love on this forum but mine puts a smile on my face every time I mash the gas pedal on the highway.

I'm under the same consideration at the moment. Last of the classic inline 6 MT rear-drive BMWs.

Do you need a boat license to operate the F10 without dynamic handling package?

Feels great, just drove it home from work then got in the e90 for a short drive. Definitely like the e90 steering better, its a more nimble car, but for highway cruising the f10 is miles ahead. The weight also helps iron out bumps in the road.

Thanks, its a great engine in my opinion. Miles ahead in terms of reliability than the n54, and based off a great design with the n52, hopefully it will be as reliable as the n52 has been for me.

the N55 is a very solid motor. I am not sure it will tick over to 200k as comfortably (not without a turbo replacement here and there, etc) the N52 is a bit more reliable.

the f10 certainly doesnt handle like no e90, but it still quite a capable and fun to drive vehicle even in contrast to the 3. going from an e90 test drive back to the f10, you appreciate the more luxurious interior, the better quality feel, high speed stability, etc. I'll be honest and admit that my driving style was always more suited to the e90. learning to appreciate the f10's stable, capable, but somewhat floaty chassis still makes it a quite fun to drive vehicle despite my rare but somewhat strained n52, RWD 528i configuration. this thing feels soft and floaty around low speed tight corner but once you go over 80KM/H and start to really attack some high speed sweepers, it transforms into a beast. very nimble and direct for its size at high speed and extremely capable autobahn chassis. I back the OP's decision for a safe, highway commuter car. the e90 is already plenty capable on the highway, but you feel the 7 series roots when cruising in the f10 (both how it rides AND how heavy the car is)

I have the last of the naturally aspirated inline 6's in a very rare f10 configuration. RWD F10's are like a unicorn here in toronto so theres that as well. the market value for this car took a huge hit so it makes no sense to sell it even if I wanted to. I will drive it into the ground

N54 is an awesome motor and so is N55 .. as for reliability, I do not think BMW owners are really looking at this aspect when purchasing a car! We all know these cars require lots of maintenance! But I will say the N54/N55 with all the modding the internals takes a lot of abuse! I read somewhere the N54 is the "new" JDM! Happy modding!

Btw, nice DD!

I leased an f10 for three years and replaced it with an e60. I dont like the floaty handling of the f10 but it is very pretty inside and out. I also hate automatics but the 8 speed zf is really smooth and fast. Enjoy your f10!

Thanks, it certainly is no where near as fun to drive as the e90, but its a great highway cruiser.
