That's unreal, come on BMW. Sort you feckin selves out.
This must be able to be stopped? All that money for a car like that and that can happen. Fuck that and fuck keyless entry. Having saying that, I would have some big gates on that driveway! |

That's absolutely scary man , how the hell do they get hold of that device
Where you suppose to keep the keys now Attic Toilet seat I think most people leave keys right next to front door or in key hanger next to door , this device won't work if keys is upstairs or somewhere in drawer . Genius scum bags . |

It works! I think i actually got mine from amazon - 3 for a tenner.
put the key in the pouch and walk up to car - NADA! cant open the door. Obviously you need to do your spare too. if you dont have comfort, then the only way is if they have "grabbed" your code when you locked the car - or via the OBD |

Bloody hell.
Seen this being fine on another video but not as clearly as on this. Can understand now why it was cheaper on insurance to park on the road - had assumed it was because everyone parked on the drive therefore any claims were on the drive

With a normal point n shoot key, it's normal to either jam or grab codes. Alternatively they just mug you. Definitely not good news for anyone with comfort access. Blocking the signal is only the real option. |

Only works if you have comfort access. My car is kept in the garage at night but I do have another in the driveway that has a smart key. Anyway that's why we have insurance. My neighbors all have several cars parked outside some of which are quite nice so I think they are a bigger target as you can see them from the street more easily. The price of the convenience features are that they make the car easier to steel.

Seems like a feature that should be disabled. Presumably BMW would be able to do this, but may well be reluctant as it would be close to an admission that they have inadequate security. I guess customers would also start asking for the option price to be refunded.

Been an issue in the US too. I don't believe it is a BMW issue, this is keyless access issue! Seen those Amazon bags, one guy said they 'wear out' after a while. Good luck! Was going to retro fit comfort access... not now!

Think in this country now if you going to have a nice car parked out side you need a big loud dog + cctv

Amplification attacks are nothing new. The problem is the key is always "on" and a work around would be to develop a key with an on and off switch - or install one yourself if you are able to hack the key to pieces. Some people therefore put their key in the fridge. I am not a fan of exposing a battery to cold conditions and fear condensation within the key will introduce rust to the circuit board. I therefore stick them in an RF pouch, in an RF shield lined safe and it does the trick.
Proper testing needs to be done on RF shielding. Placing keys in a safe you can still unlock a vehicle. As mentioned above... the bags are not the best. BMW could make the key very short range and then that might help too. |
