imho, i8, Z8, E39, definitely not E38, do not belong on the list. E9x should be on the list, space gray E92s should be on the list, and the 320i from the late 70's should be on the list. E38 is very surprising.

I think that the headline should have read Groundbreaking BMWs. The Isetta began production right after the second world war. Most mfg facilities had been destroyed by allied bombers. Ninety-nine percent of Europe's population couldn't afford the average car to say nothing of gas and taxes. The Isetta was the Model T of its time. I remember when the E38 came out in the late 80's. My daughter's pediatrician had just taken delivery. It was stunning, especially compared to the generation that it replaced. And it was incredibly fast for a car its size. I don't agree that the E9x series cars should be included. Yes, N54 and 55 motors can make a lot of power. But all BMWs started getting bloated around 2006. The E9x is only marginally smaller than the E39and the F series even larger. I think that the 1 M coupe made the list because it offered hope to the writers at R&T, C&D, etc, that BMW was headed back in the smaller, lighter direction that made the earlier cars so much fun. Just mtc.

Joke of a list. Isetta was manufactured under license by BMW. It was an Italian car reengineered by BMW.

E23 was 1st 7series, maybe worth considering, not the 3 generation version.

Perhaps in the day time, but my stealthy black sedan seems to move at lightspeed when the sun goes down... Something about blending in...

While I agree it would be extra stealthy, I think the effect would be neutralized once I have the flashing red and blue in my rearview.

I think it was just the 10 most visually interesting BMWs they could get their hands on for the photoshoot.

The e24 and e31 should have been included. They were gorgeous examples (pics "stolen" from Stanceworks):

I agree though. I love the E31 so much that I had to get one even though I'm not handy...

Most include it because it is one of the best looking big sedans of modern times, and it was a heck of a good drive for something so big. And the last before the Bangle-Mangled e65.
