Is it only on one side or both? Any pics?
I had a similar issue and had to reattach the cables while the seats were in the car because the I couldnt get to the bolts. |

You have to get both cables back into the motor while the seat is attached. It's a very tight fit and it hurt my hand but the only other option is taking off the whole seat which is very hard. Also if you take off the whole seat you need to get the airbag light coded out. Good luck!

I am also experiencing this problem and can almost get the wires back into the motor, but the cable has frayed on one end and I can't get it to go back in cleanly. Any ideas on how to get the tip of the cable squared off enough to be secure?

I had this issue with my e91. The passenger seat wouldnt move when i bought it, i went to replace the switches but it didnt fix it. the previous owner had removed the fuse, so i replaced it and the seat would move but hardly and it would get stuck, I then noticed that the two tracks were way out of alignment.
I couldnt access the torx bolts to remove the whole seat frame, so what it did was remove the bolts that hold the actual seat to the rails. they are connecting the pivot arm that allows the seat to move vertically to the seat rails. the ones for the front are to the left of the arrow with the blue mark on it. There is one on each side and they're 13mm. I cannot find pictures for the ones on the rear but they are 19mm, the head of the bolt is very shallow, i had to hold a lot of pressure on it to stop the socket from popping off when i was taking it out. You do not need to counter hold the torx head on the bolt, they're keyed into the seat frame and cannot rotate. be careful moving the seat around so you don't mess up any of the connections, but this gives you full access to the rails and the motor. Sorry for such a late reply i never saw these messages on the thread i had a water bottle stuck behind the seat and it somehow wedge itself into a position that made a medal rod connecting from the seat rail track to the seat motor came out. with needle nose pliers i was able to bend it enough to get it back into place and everything as worked fine good luck guys. The never ending struggle with bmw.
