Got Rear Ended Yesterday

Hey guys,
Sadly my car was rear ended yesterday while turning right due to the driver behind not paying attention.

I wanted to gather your guys thoughts to see if you think they are going to total it or not.

Its a 2011 328i with 69xxx miles. No airbags were deployed and no glass was surprisingly broken.

I am hoping that its not totaled because I am still paying for this car, and unfortunately getting a new car right now is not in the cards financially due to school payments//medical

Let me know what you guys think.

Ouch. But i'd guess the boot floor is crumpled, new chassis leg, new bumper, new rear quarter, new light......

Write off i'd say.

If there is no frame damage, you MAY get lucky. However there's a lot of bodywork and painting going into that. They may total it.

It looks like you were it pretty hard OP. I'm hoping you and anyone else with you don't have injuries.

Yeah, trying to figure out my options.
I'm a little stiff from it but that's to be expected.

If it was me I would rather have it totaled personally. Car is worth between 9 and 12k retail and most insurance companies will write off at 75% of that value, so $6500 - 9k, guessing it will be in that ballpark for the repair.

If they do total it, they will low ball you on the car, so find similar cars for sale in your area at a BMW dealer if you can and go back to them with those prices as they should be giving you replacement value on the car, they will try to point out things wrong with the car, but stand your ground, as soon as you refuse their first offer, they will typically come back with a realistic offer especially if you show replacement cost.

Since it was someone else's fault, it is their insurance that will be paying, if you have collision, you can have your insurance company do the let work dealing with the other person's company, but don't take the first offer, they will always pay more but hope you just take the first low ball offer.

Sorry that you had this happen. That damage repair is way greater than the value of the car. The exhaust alone is over $3K just for the parts if the cats are damaged. The body damage is at least $7K in my estimation. If they do fix it, it needs to be repaired at a certified BMW repair facility that has a BMW frame straightening machine.

It's about 2.5k to repair in my uncle's body shop. With 5 year woranty he gives. I had a 5 series with more damage and ended up jest over 2k. Parts you can find really cheap on forums and junk yeards. Like car-parts.com
