M240i MW 6MT Order

My journey for this car actually started in March 2016 with the M235i. I was set on the car from day one of hearing about it with the idea of trading my BRZ in for it. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out as I couldn’t work out a price I was happy to commit to. This was actually a blessing in disguise, as months later I heard about the M240i with the new B58 engine. I decided to just painstakingly wait out my lease this time around.

Before ordering the car, I am informed that the production date would likely be sometime in March and not February as I am ordering a 6MT RWD – so I had a timeline in place. I would order a new car and have it in late April/early May. This was perfect as my current lease on a 2014 Subaru BRZ matures in the middle of May. Awesome.

Vehicle details:
2017 M240i Coupé
Mineral White Metallic
461M (Ferric grey) with Non-runflat tires
Coral Red Dakota Leather
Fineline Streamwood Wood Trim with Oxide Silver Highlight
Premium package (This includes the moonroof, auto dimming mirrors, PDC, rear view cam, navi, comfort access, BMW connected drive services)

Picture of interior according to BMW Vin decoder:

The ordering/production process:
2017-01-10 : The hunt for a deal begins. During this process, I had 3 dealerships bidding against each other. I could not get the moonroof delete, but I am ok with it anyway.
2017-02-05 : Placed order (with specific instructions not to drill the license plate onto the front bumper)
2017-02-06 : Informed that there is no allocation for March and will likely be an April production date instead
2017-03-04 : Confirmed allocation for April production completed with production number
2017-04-07: Production date (I did not know this at the time)
2017-04-09 : Visited dealership to get quotes for some MP parts and just happened to see my sales guy. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that the car finished production on Apr 7. I promptly asked for VIN.

Following the vessel progress on WWL:
2017-04-09 : 0 search results for the first few days =(
2017-04-12 : Booked
2017-04-21 : Received at terminal [Bremerhaven]
2017-04-22 : Loaded on vessel (PATRIOT) [Bremerhaven]
2017-04-28 : Discharged [Zeebrugge]
2017-04-28 : Received at terminal [Zeebrugge]
2017-04-29 : Loaded on vessel (GLOVIS CONDUCTOR) [Zeebrugge]
… Radio silence – Anxious wait as it braved the Atlantic waters …

The Patriot was set to go to Halifax. During this whole process, I was wondering why my car was switched onto another ship mid-journey.

Hitting the rails:
2017-05-09 : Discharged [Halifax]
2017-05-09 : Liner release [Halifax]
2017-05-11 : Delivered from [Halifax]
2017-06-06 : Received e-mail stating that car is in Vancouver waiting to be delivered to dealership - made appt to take delivery!
2017-06-10 : Take delivery of car

Thread has been updated with vlog of delivery. Enjoy!

Hi there,
Congrats on your new car - I'm sure it is close to arriving now! Thought I would send you a reply as I've ordered an M240i about three weeks ago. I am scheduled for June production and they are telling me arrival second week of July in Ottawa. That is quite quick but they did have a production spot and I believe it is scheduled for production early June given the plant switch over to the LCI model ahead of July production.

It seems we have good taste as I'm coming off a lease of a BRZ too and my 240 order is almost the same as yours:

Vehicle details:
2017 M240i Coupé
Mineral White Metallic
436 wheels with Non-runflat tires
Coral Red Dakota Leather
Brushed Aluminum Trim with Gloss Black Highlight
Premium package (This includes the moonroof, auto dimming mirrors, PDC, rear view cam, navi, comfort access, BMW connected drive services)

Regards,
Mike

Hi Mike,

Congrats to you as well! Yours looks like an awesome build and that sounds like an excellent timeline from order to delivery - just in time for the Summer.

This whole process has been very bittersweet as I joyfully tracked the progress of the car for several grueling months now. It's well worth the wait from what I've read aroung the forums so far.

That's awesome! I traded in a 2014 BRZ for a 2015 M235 M Performance edition. Thought I was the only one, this year traded in the M235 for a M240 cabriolet with stage 1 Dinan kit.

Haha yeah we all had the same mentality it seems. It was like the next logical step imo. Coming from a great handling car like the BRZ, I didn't wanna give that up. This car is similar in that regard except loads more power, which the BRZ left me starved for during ownership.

Congrats to you as well on your purchases! Really inspires confidence in my decision that you came from a M235i and even justified going to a M240i.

Yeah the M240 with the new B58 motor figured was worth it plus I really wanted a cabriolet when I bought the M235 but basically talked myself out of it. So I decided this time I'll get the convertible. I'm very impressed with it so far and can tell you the Dinan kit was well worth it, if your considering one.

It's here!

I know one thing I always enjoy is watching videos of people taking delivery of their new car. Anyone who feels the same will know what I mean!

Here's a little vlog of the day I put together of my gf and I taking delivery of our new M240i!

Congrats on the M240

I'm curious....
No one stepped up for the LSD?
I am looking at the '18 LCI, 'vert
6 speed
With limited slip.
Thoughts?

Is it true it's about the size of the e46?
Is there enough back seat room?
Thanks

My 16 yr olds fit in the back - larger (5'6") behind my seat (I'm 5'10"). Nit sure I'd be able to talk them into a 5 hr drive to Toronto though...

I have xDrive - no LSD. If managing power between 2 wheels is good, then isn't 4 better? (and no - not starting a 4 vs 2 argument. I loved my RWD E90).

There's a lot of things to consider from what I read regarding the LSD:

1. Its a dealer install so there's no difference in cost getting it now or later. Perhaps drive it without first.
2. You might want to drive with DSC off to feel the full benefits (not a 100% sure of this one).
3. You might not feel the benefits until you hit the track and push it on corners or push through turns in wet conditions.
4. You're getting a convertible which has more body flex so I'm guessing it's not going to be a track weapon.

Interesting points.
I want the LSD because it would enhance inclement weather traction with Sdrive and can't get a 6speed with Xdrive. LSD puts this on par with an M. But agree this will not be a track weapon...
With M sport hopefully handling keeps the car tight in spite of being a vert.... low center of gravity (?)
Anywho.... there is no M2 vert and the B58 is what I want over the N55+

You will absolutely feel it, and it will be immediately as you leave the parking lot of the shop after install. Makes the car feel planted and secured. Slight lockup on decels on both sides, powering our of a turn even part throtth you feel the push of the LSD, it's the best mechanical mod you could do if your M235/40 didn't get one fitted when ordered, aside from tires which are very good anyways.. LSD is a no brain'r, I'd grab a Quaife, or M Performance unit.

Great car pick up video - I'm sure that it worth the wait! I'm so happy with my specs of the mineral white and coral red after seeing it in your video. Give us your impressions once you've had a few weeks with it.

Thanks! It looks so good in person too, especially under specific types of lighting. My favourite is in underground parking lots where it seems to shimmer a sort of silver.

I am definitely going to report back on my impressions after getting a handle on the car a little more.

Sat in one yesterday.
It's definitely the size of an e46 if not a hair roomier!
;-)

Gorgeous car. I need to do the financially responsible thing and finish paying off my Golf first--but I'm going full force on the window shopping right now. Mind if I ask what you ended up paying?
