Replaced spark plugs and ignition coils but cylinders still misfiring
hi all,
sunday afternoon i started my car to leave work and immediately noticed something was up, rpms were really high off start then dropped really low. I started driving and i thought it was an exhaust leak so i pulled over to check but i couldnt see any visible leaks. It sounds like a tractor, my buddy checked it out when i got home and suggest i might have a cylinder misfiring. On monday i was able to start diagnosing and first i tested to see if the engine ran worse when it took out the coil and plug from cylinder 1, spark plug looked pretty worn and when i started her up there was no noticeable difference in how it idled or sounded. So i pulled the other plugs because if im gonna replace one i might as well do them all... well with new plugs the problem still persists. My buddy and i then went to test the coils from each cylinder from 6 to 1, all gave a spark but #1. got a new coil for cylinder 1 and it seemed to of helped a little because when we first started it it seemed to run good and sound good , rpms didnt fluctuate as much on idle but as soon as i gave it a little gas it was a much deeper tone and as i decelerated i felt a strong vibration under me and in the pedal today i got a code reader and got three error codes: P0301 misfire cylinder 1 P0306 misfire cylinder 6 P0306 misfire cylinder 6 (pending) i tried swapping coil packs for 1&2 and 5&6 but i still got the same error codes. i have yet to take out the coils for 1&6 to test them because my battery died and i dont have a charger Anyone know what i should do next? someone have similar problem? car is a 06 e90 325i n52 |

dont think theres ever been a walnut blasting.
cleaned injectors and that didnt seem to do anything it only changed the error code to a misfire in cylinder 6. tested that coil and it didnt spark so we changed it to 5 and it sparked there so then we put the coil that we originally had in 6 into 3 and the coil from 3 in cylinder 5, the coil sparked on cylinder 5 but we still have a misfire for cylinder 5. |

It's a 325, no direct injection. Are those codes before or after you swapped coils?? Coils on these cars very rarely go, they never see the high hp like the 35 cars. Put a fresh set of NGK in there, reset with code reader and go from there, where did you fuel up last? The fuel injectors are another item that very rarely ever go. Also check your fuel pressure, you don't want to start dumping money into a non problem area just yet..

car has 108k miles so it wouldnt surprise me if it was coils or injectors. the codes were changing cylinders after i swapped coils, the one coil i replaced i replaced with a duralast from autozone, the other 5 are stock coils. we tested coils but none of them were faulty. also if it was fuel injectors wouldnt i of gotten a code for them? the only codes i got were P0301,P0306, and P0305. as of now the only code reading is P0305
