Is this a Smart Repair?

Long story short...a couple of bricks on my chimney decided to spall (on a 2001 house). The roof over our inglenook fireplace was just the right angle to change the direction of falling brick face from the vertical and to redirect them to the waiting GC rear window and bootlid a couple of meters away on the drive. So that's sod's law covered

Do you think this could be a smart repair? 5 or so small chips covering, each 1 or 2mm over a distance of an inch or two. Right through to the metal. I'm off to the dealers at lunchtime to find out...

(NB. Chipsaway suggested touch-up stick or respray, so I am braced for a no)

Personally, for such minor damage, I'd rather touch it in carefully myself and keep the surrounding paintwork original.

Agree on a touch-up job. I certainly don't want the lid sprayed. I wasn't sure how big an area smart repair covered, so was thinking this might be the neatest job and smoother than a touch-up stick.

Could I suggest a fine artists brush rather than a toothpick. I find that controls the flow of paint better. Also, you will need to carefully build up a number of layers of paint
True, I'm just not as cultured as u are hahah

Update...

Good on Dick Lovett BMW's bodyshop in Bristol, they offered to touch it up for me - free of charge. Can't remember the last time I walked into a dealer (any brand) and they offered to do something for free! It's done now.

Nice one

Pics of the repair? I assume they brushed it in and polished it off with a DA?

No pics I am afraid, as it's pouring down here. I'll check it out properly at the weekend.

They offered to touch it in for free, or to touch it in and DA it for £50+vat. I went for the free option, as I can always get the proper job done if I am not happy.

Fingers crossed that it has moved from eye-catching to not noticeable without looking hard!

Yes, I considered buying one from parts, but as the body shop offered to do it...

You're going to get marks on it I'm afraid. I know your's was different but you are bound to get stone chips too (not wanting to tempt fate).

I bought a DA polisher and regularly touch in stone chips and then mop them off with a fine compound. Worth it's weight in gold for that job alone.

A good result though overall and nice to see a dealer doing this sort of thing for once

If it's still bad, then try this:

http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/foru...ad.php?t=20127

Apparently paints4u are pretty decent for the paint, but i've never tried them.
