hit a metal line on freeway
I hit a metal on the freeway yesterday night. It sliced through my left bumper for around 3.5 inches. Any ways to fix it? Or I have to replace it?

Sorry to hear, a couple weeks ago I couldn't avoid the head of a shovel....I couldn't find any damage when I got home, maybe it put a puncture into the covering somewhere near my left front jack pad....

it would not fall apart even without fixing it, I think. Splitters is a great option, but couldn't find any splitters for an m3 rep bumper. But I do not want the whole lip as it pretty pricey.

http://www.jl-motoring.com/BMW_E92_E...p/bmfs9215.htm Not sure if they have splitters but this is still an option. Cheaper than getting a new bumper. |

^^ But that wouldn't cover the broken part, you'd still see the split. Splitters would but none fit without modding. New bumper is only going to be about that price + paint.

Does anyone know how much work is needed to fit a splitter on an m3 rep bumper? Or it doesn't worth the effort? |

I called AAA today. They gave me an estimate on repairing the bumper. It's $997 and I have to pay the $500 deductible. I am calling them tomorrow and check if that would affect my insurance rate. If it will, then I have to consider if it's worth it or not.

I run a $0 or $50 deductible on comp for reasons like this. It adds shockingly little cost to your premium. This will not hurt your rate.

oh. the estimate says the type of loss is a collision, not a comprehensive. I assumed that is because the metal I hit was not in motion.

Yep, my deductible is $100, I tried to increase it to $500 or even $1000 (c'mon had this hands insur. co for 7 yrs, never 1 claim), it would save < $20 per 6 mos., left it alone. That's comp, not to be confused with collision. My understanding is you hit a shovel on the road, that's comp, like hitting a deer. I could be wrong since as I said, nary a claim...

also I was told a comp claim does not raise rates, but a collision claim will always raise rates...who the heck knows insurance people are like aluminum siding salesmen anyway (with my luck some member will say I'm an insurance and an aluminum siding salesman, wtf are you talking about) |

Who wrote the quote - a shop or an adjuster from your insurance co? Either way you just need to talk to your insurance co. I had an incident with debris on the road a few years ago and I don't recall exactly which category it was classified but it wasn't collision. I had to negotiate them a little bit to get them to get to that end.
