20 Vs 19 inch Rims: Ride quality, weight, performance, risk for a flat or a damaged R

I trying to make my mind, the 20 look great but everything else is a minus.

I live in an area with some bad roads and I also drive through neighborhoods that being stranded with a flat is not the most pleasant/safe experience.

Anyone have issues with the 20s, I would love to get them but my mind is saying don't.

Thanks

Just do it!

I had the same dilemma, and now I have 20 759 rims.
It rides incredibly smooth, much better than my old 535 GT on 19, I'm extremely pleasantly surprised by ride quality on 20" wheels.

I was looking at a 540 with 20" on it before I decided with the one with the 19".

Personally for me it won't matter since I will change the wheel anyway.
Also the one with the 20" was having less options then the one with the 19".

IMO, the 20" looks funny since the tire is a little bit narrrow, which causing the tires looked stretched.

With the 19", the tire and wheel looks bigger.

Ride wise, I can't comment, because I didn't test drove it back to back.

Now I am getting aftermarket 20" wheel on mine.
The tire size will be 245/35-20 and 285/30-20.

I think with that size, it will looks better and ride even better since it won't be a run flat tires.

245/35-20 is the size that comes on the car when you order it with the 759 wheels. Won't it look the same to you...stretched. What size dimensions are you going with?

The front will be the same, but the rear will be less stretched.
But it also may be less stretched since it won't be run flat tire.
The wheel I am going with will be 20x9 and 20x10.5.

I don't have issues with 20'' rims with my car and it's a sport car. It's very comfortable aside from when I put it in sport mode and drive over the bumps or bad patched roads. However it came with non run flat tires, it came with conventional tires.
In this logic, G30 being a tech packed sedan must feel very comfortable, my G30 hasn't arrived yet therefore I can't get my hands on to share my thoughts.

For what it is worth, I had a test drive on 20s with a car fitted with vdc and was impressed.( UK roads which are not great frequently)

I just ordered 20" style 668M wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S non-runflat tires today and asked the dealer to put these on before I collect my car.

I sure hope the ride will not be very harsh
I can tell how the ride is when i get my car mid of July.

I am still not sure. Car will be displayed at Bimmerfest with display wheel, but I may go with different style.

Better than F10 with 19s... Better than any car I have owned on any rims.
I hit a hole a couple days ago that had that hard bang, but the Goodyear Eagle F1 shows no issues.
For me... so far... you can have the looks and the comfort... and I don't have DHP or DDC, just M-Sport.
My winter scenario and experience is less clear... it will certainly add cost either way, but I will need to decide if I should go with the 20" rft winter tire, a 20" Non-rft winter even though I did not choose the spare, or a new rim/tire winter package of a smaller size.

You're asking for trouble with 20's if your roads are crap plus in your case dangerous. The sidewalls with 20" tires are just too small for the weight of this car if your roads have serious potholes. Even with 19's the tires are low profile and you have to be careful when going through potholes.
Talk to the service dept. at your dealer, they'll tell you the sad truth.

RG, what wheels did you decide to go with. Any pics yet...I am considering all options too and just discovered they changed the bolt pattern so I am back to square one now...

Garage List
I'm about to order mine this week. I have a 2012 911 Turbo that "lives atmy house in Fort Luderdale because of the Boston roads. I'm leaning toward the 20's on the M550 but my mind is saying STOP....Winter.....$$$$$ change out. My 2 Msports I was able to downsize with a set of BMW OEM rims from Craigslist and run for 6 years on Michelin Ice with no issues. I will now resell them. This car too new to find a downsize deal. Last 2 cars never left dealer with rFT's on them. Straight to Pilot SS. Thoughts on 19 or 20s? Not a snowbird. work in both States. Thanks.

I have 20’s on poor NY roads but so far so good. The ride quality really hasn’t changed compared to oem 18’s. I think you’ll be fine.

I've 759 20" wheels with passive m-sport suspension. As others have said ride is incredibly smooth. I've not had any issues.
