Would you trade your E90 for a E60?
My dad has a 2006 530i and is thinking about getting a Tesla.
The car is a 6MT with 45k miles or so. It's a one owner car that he's bought new back in 2005. In fact he had to order it from the factory to get a 6MT and the options he wanted. The car has been maintained very well over the past 12 years. The only issues is it's been in a couple of accidents where there's enough history to make it pretty hard to sell/trade in for a good value. If you were me, would you consider asking him to give the car to me instead of trying to sell/trade it in? |

Months ago I was throwing the idea around of trading my e90 for a e60 M5, however, after closely monitoring M5Board.com in the e60 section, I've decided to hold onto the e90. The maintenance and potential problems would have kept me up at nights as I'm far from a baller . IMHO the e60 only looks good in the M5 and LCI 550i sport models. Otherwise they look very unappealing.

Depends on a number of factors. If I needed more room, I would.

Ok i have an unfair comoarison but here goes . I have both an e91 and an e61, both manuals. I like them bith a lot but they are noticably different. The 3 handles better obviously but its in how you feel the road and how you feel in the seat. Its tight and nimble and quick (its rwd). The e61 is awd cause thats the only option but it is the n54 vs the n52 in my 3. Its different - it is definitely still a good handling, if heavy, car (4100lbs). But its quieter and feels bigger and is more deliberate. It is a lot of fun to drive fast but it requires more concentration. It has the power and steering feel so it is fun but like i said its different. You feel the weight. When you are in the mood to hit apexes a e90 is the right tool and the e60 wont satisfy. But you can enjoy the e60 on backroads its just going to take a sligtly different style. Rwd is always better but i really think the bigger car suffers more from having that front transaxle than the smaller cars.
But what do i know? Good luck.

Maybe if it was an M5, but only after taking F30lolz comments to heart. I was torn between a manual E60 M5 (which is an absolute brute when you mash down the M button) and a 335is. The maintenance liabilities on the M5 proved to be a bit too intimidating, plus I fell in love with the DCT and drop top on the IS.
Otherwise, hard pass on an N52 E60. Not enough power or torque to throw around a car that big, might as well go full luxe in a 7-series at that point.

Probably not. Why would you? Bigger, heavier, uglier, slower and older. Keep in mind I love the E60 but this is my honest opinion. If you had said a 2010 550 or M5 then maybe it'd be worth your time but it seems like an equal trade or downgrade depending on your year and mileage. Good luck

We have two 335i E92's and one 535i. Your comparing apples to oranges. As another poster stated the 5 series is roomier, better ride, quieter and in our case has a lot more bells and whistles.
If you need more room the 5 series is a nice car. For the fun factor the 335i all day. |
