Question Any info on the Dinan flash update?

Does anyone here work for Dinan or is a rep for Dinan that can give us some details on the Dinan update coming some time in May? Information like the torque curve coming back down to below 2500rpm? Things like that?

May 10th is the solid date for the update. And it is free.

Beyond that, I don't think there is any additional information at this time.

Free including labor, or do we have to pay for that?

My parts guy does it for free. I don't think the labor should have to be paid for. That would suck, and in my opinion defeat the purpose of a "free" upgrade.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if they charge you to flash the car back to stock at lease-end?

Thanks for the date, my local Dinan dealer said it was absolutely free, just takes about an hour. I was on the phone with a Dinan dealer and he basically said they put back the throttle controls BMW had originally designed for the low end response and torque curve, so I'll be looking forward to that.

My dealer said they will NOT charge for that. Thankfully!

Nice! That does sound good. I may hold out and wait for people's impressions (including your impression) of the update before I pull the trigger. I'm always a cautious fellow.

I really don't even think there is any problem with the down low on the dinan tune. I like that I can drive the car nice and easy and when I need it put down all that power. Whats all your inpressions?

The update is just changing the down low throttle response correct? Or are they adding any features?

Some misinformation needs to be cleared up.

Dinan's current flash provides a "linear" response.

Dinan: press the gas pedal 10% ----> the ECU gives you 10% throttle
20%---->20% throttle
30%---->30% throttle
You get the idea. This is why the tune is smooth.

OEM: press the gas pedal 10% ----> the ECU gives you 30%-35% throttle and spreads the remaining 65%-70%, over the remaining pedal travel.

There is no change in the torque curve, you just have to press the damn pedal!

Rev. 2 of the Flash removes this linear approach and reverts back to stock-like behavior.

Well, I'm not too sure about that being true, before when I smashed my foot into the pedal (stock), the car would just fling and spin tires, now, if I smash my foot to the floor, there is a hesitation and a surge when it hits 2500rpm, so no, that's just not true unless I brake/gas/rev/let go ... maybe you guys with 6MT have better modulation, but us step guys have nothing below, even 3/4 into the throttle pedal.

Yeah its not just throttle response. They remapped the auto too, and it is dead for first 3/4 travel. I concur with you.

I've seen dyno plots, and the current Dinan tune pulls less torque than stock at the bottom end. If my memory is correct, they were equal somewhere around 2500RPM I believe, but fell below stock on the way to idle. Where other tunes (Procede I think) matched stock at the bottom end, and then exceeded it after 2500RPM.

I'd like to see it match the stock at the bottom end again. I got the car with Dinan already in it, and the throttle almost feels binary. No much at the bottom, huge power at higher throttle. It feels like you have to give it a lot of throttle for light throttle acceleration (nothing there at light throttle).
