iDrive Knob Upgrade

I currently have a sticky know. Also it's pretty small. So fancy a bigger knob to fiddle with that isn't as sticky.

No puns intended, the buttons on the top of my iDrive are sticky, cleaned them best I can and they function fine, but just have a horrible stickyness to them.

I have the smaller style iDrive with 3 buttons (left) and going to repalce it, wondering if the 4 button version (right) is plug and play or a no go?

Thanks in advance!

I'd guess that the device would require an element of coding.

Yeah got one of these on order! Just that it's sticky so might get it out to clean it first then stick my bigger knob on! Look good though!

Mines coming from China, Ł8 I think it was!

Yeah I've ordered a few bits, you're covered. I haven't ever been done on it, but I always use rated and trusted sellers though.

Does anybody know if the swap described here is going to be "plug and play" ?

I have literally done it today. All the buttons work apart from nav (as I don’t have that). And you can move the knob up/down but only left/right works (as with the old one).
I am not sure if the up/down functionality requires coding but i mainly got this for the looks! I will be getting a bigger knob eventually.

I btw got one that has a ‘media’ button rather than ‘cd’

That's great .
The MEDIA button guides you to the Multimedia submenu and the RADIO button guides you at the Radio submenu so they have different destination ?

Correct! All working as expected 😊
Very pleased with the swap as the standard one looks quite ‘cheap’... now just need to get a bigger knob for the finishing touch

I did exactly the same today, works a treat, hoping the Nav part will work with the Avin unit when/if I order one.

Now you’ve given me a knob inferiority complex as I’ve only got a small one.
