Do you need to register a new battery if it's exactly the same?

Do you need to register a new battery if it's exactly the same as the old one?

Technically, yes. But it's not the end of the world if you don't.

Yes. Registering tells the car that the battery is new, so it charges it differently than if it were old.

If it was a different battery you would need to code it as well.

Last time I paid to get a battery replaced it cost $180 (USD) just for the labor and coding. (The battery itself was extra).

I won't do that again.

But the tool when you replace your batter. You'll never pay the register fee again. Or go get a Bmw oil change and work the SA to throw the flash in for free. I have done both.

It needs coded, I have seen new batteries last less than 6 months exact same battery as in the car but not coded and car is charging it incorrectly. Get a cable and INPA or Carly or something all are cheaper to do it yourself over paying the dealer to do it.

Your car will still run, but some features may be unavailable. For instance, I didn't register mine for a few days, and I couldn't use the rest heat function. Also, the car didn't crank as heartily as it should have (but that may have just been me overthinking it).

Also, I'm still waiting for Foxwell scanning tool and from what I heard I can register the battery with that scanner right ?

No. The same battery does not need to be coded if it's the same battery size and type.

It only needs to be registered in the OP's case.

100% true. Like for like, register. Lead acid to AGM, code then register....

When I did it, the dealer charged me about $80 in labor, because the total bill was $280 with the battery listing for $199....I panicked, because one day in cold weather I got the battery icon while listening to tunes in the car. They even asked me, why do you feel you need a new battery? I insisted, and so they changed it, and I kept the original. The original is still good today. I replaced it like 4 years ago.

I used an Indy. $300 out of the door includes 6 years of warranty as long as the average mileage is 1,000 a month or above. Worth it in my opinion. Its a BMW branded battery.

Also I found these 640 CCA

I want to avoid any issues with registering battery, so I want to buy one with exactly same parameters.

You want an 80Ah flooded cell to only need to register. I have the Foxwell tool and it has a register battery function. I haven't used it, but, found it while doing other things with it.

You might have problems finding battery spec showing Ah. It that's the case the closest correlation is RC.
