Best runflats
Had the 328i for nearly 11000 miles now,. When I got it (auc) the rear tyres were new but the fronts were around half worn so not surprising they look like they'll need replacing in the next 3000 miles
I have 18 inch wheels and whilst handling is excellent I've always been a little disappointed with the amount of tyre noise I hear Goodyear are quiet Any recommendations based on quietness ? |

My Michellin Sport Zero Pressure made me feel okay about run flats for a while. They had the performance of the old pilot sport and net me 20k miles of mixed saintly and spirited driving.

Goodyear are the quietest RFT on the market as this was my main priority when i was looking at tyres. I have the Goodyears on 3 cars in my household (my car, wifes and Daughters) and would not buy anything else currently.
Technology moves on so it might be different in a couple of years time, however they are the quietest at the moment. |

Hi, just got a 330 d LCI in the last month, fitted with Goodyear Eagle F1 on 19" rims. Road noise is horrendous compared to previous BMW on conventional tyres. Most people here seem to say they are the quietest of the run flats. If I could afford to swop mine for non run flats I would ( car has only done 5000 miles) They spoil a great car.

Looking at the official EU ratings, Dunlop SportMaxx are even quieter than the Goodyears, have better wet grip and are cheaper.
Downside is they are not * marked and they don't have the 225/45R18 fitment for the front wheels at Camskill.

On the Black circles website Goodyear Eagle are rated at 65db and Dunlop Max are 69db. I believe the noise readings are taken by drive by method. I wonder if this translates the same actually in the car. Do run flats transmit more noise into the cabin because of stiffer sidewalls? If so does that equate to non run flats with a slightly higher db rating actually sounding quieter inside? Just asking.

The 116d loan car I had this week had Dunlop Sportmaxx rft's, and although they handled really well, were comfortable, quiet and had good turn in, they spun and screeched when I pulled away quickly on completely dry roads! If they do that on a 116d then I certainly wouldn't want them on anything more powerful!

My only experience of rfts are the sport continental 5s I have on since new and they are certainly good for performance but the cabin is noisy. How much of that is tyre and how much is poor wind insulation I dont know but I would consider them again as sport conti 6s are out now.

Just out of interest, is the TPMS affected when changing to non RFT's? I.e. Do you get a message constantly or doesn't it matter?

Had Potenzas on two cars including a 328i. Just changed to Goodyear Eagle F1 RFT. Will not be going back. Better in every aspect.

as someone above mentioned look at Run Flat Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 65dB rating http://www.blackcircles.com/catalogu...?tyre=32067525
then look at non run flat Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 69dB http://www.blackcircles.com/catalogu...?tyre=35076510 with that comparison i am going to go with with quieter Run Flat version

I have Bridgestone on front (3/4 worn) & Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 on rear (as new), rear deff quieter but car is nervous at high speeds...70+, could this be due to different tyres front/back or tyre wear difference?

The Goodyear Eagle F1 RFT are 68dB I think, still very good and everywhere seems to recommend them Think I'll be going for the Goodyears Thanks for all the feedback it's good to see there's a general consensus On the E39 forum I was on (OK, I know the E39 is a very old car now so the demographic of owners will be very different to the F30) there was never any agreement on which tyres were best |

I've got 19" Potenza S001s. No problems whatsoever, possibly also due to the adaptive suspension. Certainly way better than the old RE050s.
I've even stopped flinching when I see a big pothole coming. |
