I was quoted $100 for coating my exhaust tips by my detailer who had already coated my car with ceramic pro silver package. I noticed the tips get black easily especially when I use sport+ mode that makes the exhaust pop the loudest. Does coating the tips really help with maintaining it cleaner because my concern is the heat will remove it. However he mentions multiple layers to protect it more.

Curious about this too. I applied some Geyon Q2 on my rims and calipers. I might try to put some on the tips. It's pretty cheap, $50 and easy to apply

To answer your question, yes it helps a lot.

I'm using 'Rim Stance' from Kamikaze, its specially developed for high temp areas/applications. Seems to be holding up well after a few months.

Very noticeably easier to clean.

Nice! My deatiler uses Ceramic pro so in this case he would use the Rim Coating to withstand the heat. I'm emailing ceramic pro to see what they have to say too.

I coated my M4 black chrome comp tips a month ago and so far so good. I used Pearl Nano HD (used on wheels) and they are easy to clean, the coating is consistent, shine nicely and no issues so far. The detailer warranted the coating for 4 years, didn't charge me extra for the tips... just included it in the coating job.

Sorry a little off topic, but I noticed that the tips on my M2 have soot on the passenger side pipes, but not on the driver side. Is this normal?

Yes. The M2 is passenger biased in the exhaust, since only that side opens when driving in Comfort mode. In Sport/Sport+ it opens both sides, but still biased a bit.

I did an "experiment" last few months to see if driving in Sport only and no Comfort would help, and it did, but only marginally.

I can't speak from M2 experience yet but I would assume it's like with my 228i, due to valves in the exhaust only opening at certain times causes the pipes to get dirty unevenly.

Ahh...thanks for the insight (again!) gmz, I've been driving in mostly comfort for the break-in and was curious.

Yea I do notice passenger side gets dirtier first and it's just how the pipes are set up.

Anyone find a cheaper option? I can't justify paying $75-100 to coat ZCP tips that cost about $200.

So what are you guys using to clean off that soot? I have used several products, wax, turtle wax grime remover, Magic Erase Sponges, penetrating oil, etc. It's a bitch to get them clean.

They seem to come off easily by the my car wash guys. BTW I noticed when they scrub off the tips they are easily moved around. It made me worried it makes the exhaust tips less solid but I think that is normal as they move slightly even when driving hard.

GYEON RIM will work on the exhaust tips.
Resist very high temperature and optimal for rims and calipers. Made the treatment on my M2 and the break dust is very easy to remove. The gloss is awesome!

I just give it a quick scrub with my car wash sponge when I'm doing the back. It seems to come back off. If I really want to shine them, I hit them with some Never-Dull. I've never had a problem cleaning them.
