440i MPPK MPG

I know this is a bit of a silly question, i.e., why spend two grand on something to make your car go faster and louder and then worry about petrol costs, BUT...

I had MPPK fitted yesterday to my 440i GC and yes it sounds great, (though my kids are laughing at me for being a middle aged boy racer), and yes, I could feel a difference in power at the top end, so I am pleased with it except that...

The mpg seems to have dropped considerably. (it was on 29.7 after 12,000 miles) It's too early to compare the figures properly but the mpg seems to be well down and under 10mpg on any sort of acceleration and even today driving like a "girl" in comfort, I couldn't manage 30 on a 10 mile journey.

Anyone got any thoughts on this. I'm happy to see a 10% drop but it feels like more than this.

Yes the MPPSK for 40i does increase power and torque.

OP, you are more likely suffering from a calibration of fuel computer issue. There should be no reason, at low engine load conditions, that fuel usage is the same as before.

Start logging your fill ups with a free app like Road trip, to get a true reading. There is a way to tweak the OBC readings to line up with real world figures, by altering some value in the instrument cluster service mode.

Thanks, Nisfan, I did wonder about that, I filled up yesterday but will do so again and check over a tankful. Obviously when I was testing it out yesterday, I was doing a lot of acceleration and speeds of up to 69 mph but it just seemed very low today.

Actually, I've just read the blurb on MPG which says "Comparable consumption despite higher performance. The fuel consumption and emissions levels in the ECE driving cycle correspond to those of the standard engine despite the significantly greater performance"

The MPPK I had fitted to my old F10 520d said something similar. I actually found it marginally improved the fuel economy though.

Its not that loud in comfort mode. If you sit on your drive and rev it, you'll wake up the neighbours (and if you are in sports mode, whoever they've got buried in their gardens) but otherwise its just a bit more throaty.

if you want the upgrade without the exhaust, there's many chips available or if you want warranty, there AC Schnitzer but that more expensive.

Was that on the OBC? or by calculating from fill ups

It's calculated using the Road Trip app but the OBC is usually only a few tenths different

I've been monitoring this - I'm averaging 29Mpg with the 340i MPPK. I've had the pack since last Sept.

If I look at the big motorway runs I get around 33Mpg and I have recently hit 37Mpg on the M1. I haven't been driving economically either.

I believe I get around c.400miles to a full tank.

Given the M140i runs the mppsk tune standard (or so it appears), mpg is still pretty good for the performance. OK the 3er is never going to be quite so good as it weighs more but shouldn't be far off.....

I'm currently averaging 32.27mpg after 4,400 miles in my 440i MPPSK. Had the kit fitted new so can't comment on the difference but I'm happy with that. It's a mix of very short and very long trips. Frequently see close to 40mpg on long motorway cruises.

I generally use Sport mode day-to-day and then slip into Eco Pro on long motorway runs when active cruise control takes the strain.

Well after a week and nearly 1000 miles it is showing about 31 mpg. I checked the onboard computer against what I'd spent and it was bang on. I think my early worries were either due to it "bedding in" (if there is such a thing) or me driving it more aggressively. Anyway, it doesn't seem to be the problem, I thought it was.

Anyone here added the MPPSK whilst the car is on a pcp? Do you have to tell BMW finance and are they ok with it?

Also, what's the price people have paid for it the MPPSK and from where?

Thanks

I told BMWF about my 330d PPK. They were fine with it.

Mine was 1999 in BMW Coopers in Reading. Car is owned as well. Had a journey to continent recently and enjoyed a lot - MPPSK sound is so great when cruising through small villages even most of the time I had it in the normal mode.
