Rotor/pads

I have a stock 2011 335i xdrive with 45k miles. It is my dd and no plan on tracking and modding. Charge pipe,DP and mhd will be the only thing i will be adding in the future. My rear pads need to be replace soon and probably the rotors as well. I wanted a cross drilled/slotted for looks.OEM pads/rotors are fine with me But i hated the rusted parts.

Need recommendations

Should i just stay with oem rotors/pads?if so, where to buy?dealer?

If Crossdrilled/slotted rotor, what brand? And pads?
where to buy?
Stoptech?
R1?

Rockauto. Use the centric premium rotors that are painted - they'll never show rust. They are the parent company of a lot of the other rotor companies (stop tech). High quality and no BS.

Go elsewhere if you want to pay more for no more functional gain.

Pricing goes as follows (high to low):
Dealer
Secondary parts seller (ECS, turner, etc)
Supplier/warehouser (Rockauto)

If you want drilled and slotted then grab the stop tech ones from rock auto. Unbeatable value.

I bought centric rear rotors and pads all around for $155 shipped, iirc.

Yes, any pad designed for the stock caliper will fit any rotor designed for the stock car.

OEM is semi-metallic. Ceramic would be something to consider if you wanted to decrease your brake dust. Akebono is a good ceramic manufacturer.

When shopping on Rockauto stick to the "Daily Driver" or above categories so you know you're getting good quality:$ ratio. This is my opinion.

Their super cheap stuff is tempting, but I've never gone that route, FYI.

Cross-drilled is pointless. Slotted will help wipe the pad and prevent glazing, but you tend to go through pads more quickly. It's best just to get blanks. Good brands are:

Ate
Bosch
Brembo
Centric
EBC
Meyle
StopTech
Zimmermann

GEOMET coated rotors are ideal. They make quite the difference in both aesthetics and maintenance. They won't stick to your hub. You can identify them by the matte silver coating.

This is what I got from TGS and they are an excellent upgrade. Skip the HPS pads, they are way too noisy for me.

Are you heavily tracking? If not, you won't be using most of the benefits from cryogenically frozen rotors.

Exactly. Cryo is overkill in your case. I've owned both, and tracked both. Never noticed a difference, however, I'm not all that fast

I've had great results from Brembo and Zimmerman.

FCP Euro has Zimmerman blank rotors. Those are OE, has no corrosion and does not warp/vibrate/pulse. It's worth it to spend the extra $20 and get OE quality rotors to get the job done once and for all. Brake vibration is hella annoying. With shipping from RockAuto its a few dollars in difference from FCP. I know cuz I just bought them a few months ago. 335 rotors are HUGE. Slight imperfections in quality will be very obviously felt. Again, I know cuz I've made the mistake in the past.

As for drilles/slotted vs stock - for your case, you won't see anything other than aesthetics and decreased pad life. I'd recommend blanks.

Zimmerman cross drilled & Akebono Pads.

Pelican has the cheapest price on Zimmerman cross drilled.

However, FCP Euro has a lifetime warranty.

So, make FCP price match Pelican.

Akebono pads - Amazon has the best prices on Akebono pads.

I'd also get the brass caliper pin sleeves from ECS Tuning, if you want better pedal feel and better wear and longevity on the pads and rotors. Totally worth it.....

It looks like Rock auto has the Akebono pads for 5$ cheaper front and 0.50 cheaper rear, but maybe not free shipping (depends on FFA requirement).

Anyway, I've almost never found any reason to stray from Rock Auto on parts like these.

Also, brass guide pins can be great, but I did find them a pain when I lived in the midwest and they were exposed to salty winters. YMMV but I have to clean and lube them couple times a year. All depends where you live, I guess

You don't have to clean and lube the brass inserts, that often if you use a silicone based brake grease.

You can. Take some 320 grit sandpaper to the pads to remove any glaze before putting them back on.
