RIP Porsche and Shelby Mustang

Got stuck in traffic yesterday not too far from home and was shocked as I finally got past the cause, a Porsche (not sure of the exact model) and a Shelby Mustang, both absolutely totalled............the engine of the Porker had been literally ripped out during the crash and was about 50m from the car on the carriage way. The railing on the side of the bridge was heavily damaged and I reckon it was fortunate that neither car ended up in the River Ouse 100 or so feet below, very lucky. I don't think either of these will ever see the open road again!!

Jeez that's heavy, not long ago it'd be serious fatalities assuming it wasn't this time!

Yeah as far as I've heard it wasn't fatal, there was a trail of debris for a good couple of hundred yards before I saw the engine, followed by the Porsche then the Shelby, it was carnage. Don't want to jump to conclusions but it seemed fairly obvious that there was a decent amount of speed involved.

It's a turbo. Big air intakes on the rear arches.

Wonder what happened...

It's a 991 911 with turbo wheels but I think they're an option.

Pretty sure it's a Turbo, as you can see the air intakes as mentioned, plus the wheels, plus it looks like it has carbon ceramic brakes. Maybe those brakes were too good for the Mustang, so he rear ended the Porsche, which caused it to hit the railings?

No doubt both drivers had been trying to make some kind of point, or ended up racing and let the red mist descend.

Yes defo a Turbo, and it's spoiler was likely smashed off at the same time the engine was ripped out!

I think you're probably right, the difference in braking power of that brand new Turbo's ceramic brakes compared to that old mustang must be substantial!

Yeah I'm pretty sure there was a fair old speed involved judging by the distance that the debris was spread over, hopefully nobody was badly hurt or worse

Or there was standing traffic and the mustang driver was distracted or an alien space ship landed in front of them, who really knows?

I was wondering if the Porsche was new, the pipes/hoses at the rear of the car look spotless, owner must be gutted

Man, that's probably a Turbo S. If it was 'just' a Turbo, he specced the Turbo S wheels and the CC brakes which would come towards the cost of the Turbo S where they're standard. Why bother doing that? Just take the animal that is the Turbo S. I mean 0-60 in 2.9 seconds!

Serious car.....He must be gutted, but insurance should see him alright.

Ouch

I must have led a sheltered motoring life as I don't recall an engine sliding past me on the motorway looney toon style in the last 27 years???

On the posative side, coming soon to an autotrader ad near you ""Cat c 911 turbo, minor bump, "no idea why it was a write off, th wing was only dinged" ""

Also, a definitive test result in the carbon versus steel non existent debate, carbon brakes > steel brakes!

Well chaps, I know how this happened!

My wife's best friend has just told us about it as she works for the same company as the owner of the Shelby Mustang! Apparently it was all the Mustang drivers fault, he accelerated to overtake and due to side winds on the bridge and possible oil on the road, the back end of the Mustang slid and caused him to smash into the side of the Porsche!

So there you go, mystery explained.

Nice one Teaston, thanks for the update. It does get windy on the Ouse Bridge and is quite often closed to higher sided vehicles especially. Porsche owner should be looking forward to a shiney new toy soon then

That's a shame, looked like a nice car. Hopefully everybody was ok, that's the main thing. Couldn't believe the debris everywhere and then I saw the engine just laying in the road.

Were there anymore excuses they missed out?

What about the trying to show off to the Porsche driver and running out of talent one reason?

That's unlucky, dropping your 'stang in the wind on an oily motorway only to hit a 911 turbo s that happened to be alongside you!

Sheesh.
