BMW's best selling 4 Series worldwide is the Gran Coupe
Article from Motor1: https://www.motor1.com/news/143701/b...-series-coupe/
The four-door Gran Coupe accounts for more than half of all 4 Series sales worldwide. BY: Steven Ewing, Managing Editor, Motor1 "When is a coupe not a coupe? When it’s a BMW Gran Coupe. Contrary to BMW’s nomenclature that intends to reserve even-numbered series for two-door cars, Gran Coupe models have four doors and a liftback-style trunk out back. So the 4 Series Gran Coupe, for example, is really just a functional sedan. And in fact, it’s out-selling the two-door coupe on which it’s based. During a product briefing for the updated 4 Series model range, BMW shared some rather interesting sales statistics. Despite arriving after the traditional Coupe and Convertible models, the 4 Series Gran Coupe is now outselling both… combined. On a global scale, the Gran Coupe accounts for 54 percent of all 4 Series sales, while the coupe and convertible together account for the remaining 46 percent. It’s easy to see why. The liftback design offers far more cargo capacity than the Coupe and Convertible models. The 2017 4 Series Gran Coupe boasts as much as 45.9 cubic feet of cargo room, with the rear seats folded. That’s even better than a 3 Series sedan which, due to its traditional trunk configuration, only accommodates 17 cubic feet. (Of course, with the rear seats up, the 4GC has a smaller 15.8 cubic feet of space in its cargo hold.) What’s more, the 4 Series Gran Coupe is actually a bit nicer to drive than its 3 Series equivalent, thanks to its wider track and lower center of gravity. I’ve long maintained that the best-driving 3 Series model actually starts with the number 4. All 4 Series models received a number of enhancements for the 2018 model year, including revised steering tuning, new suspension settings, and some very subtle design tweaks. Look for a full review of the updated 4 Series in the near future." That makes the case for my M4 Gran Coupe render ;-) (http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1344407)

They need to produce an M4 Gran Coupe. I wouldn't hesitate to cut them a check each month for that! I don't understand why they don't have the 3 and 4 Series line replicate the 5 and 6 Series lineup. I think the lines on the 4 Gran Coupe are absolutely stunning and actually much better looking that the 6 Gran Coupe. The market is definitely there!

Not surprised. After prior ownership of F30 and now driving F36, I prefer GC.

The Grand Coupe is better looking than the F30 so I am sure that increased the sales then the vert versus the coupe will dilute the sales of the 2 door.
If I was in the market for a 4 door saloon I would definitely pick the GC (with the 5th door...) on looks and specs alone.

I see these gorgeous gran coupe style bodies almost completely taking over sedan sales in the future. If you need the 4 doors, you're also very likely to love the extra storage space and the hatchback. If they weren't still so new and harder to get (more expensive), I would've certainly held out for one.

Not surprised 1 bit.
The GC, especially the 4GC offers the best of both world. The driving dynamics and looks of a coupe with the practicability of a sedan and some (hatch) I went from F30 335 to an F36 435... will do it again in a heartbeat. The only thing I wish BMW could have done better in exterior styling is they should have made the GC more "leveled" like a coupe, instead of having the rear higher than the front. |

Even Audi is bringing the U.S. the Sportback to compete here with the GC and now KIA is sending us the Stinger...........

What would you call the M4-GC? Would you just make it the M4 and kill the 2door M4?

Edit: Thinking about it more, this is exactly the same as the M4 Convertible. Different chassis code, still badged an M4, but differentiated in conversation and literature. |

It will be called the M4 Gran coupe, not killing off anything.

Still think it's ugly from the rear 3/4 and looks like a GT.

Not too surprising. Everyone I know that bought a coupe did so because they liked the coupe-like design/shape/silhouette. Keep the coupe-like design and add two more doors and it's a no-brainer.

No real talent here, just adapting M4 bits to the GC ;-) But it shows how great an M4 GC would be!

In real life, they don't look the same at all, the GT, well looks heavy and unresolved where the GC looks low and mean, like a proper sports car...

Not surprised... oh, how I miss my 6MT, RWD 428i GC's low n wide stance and functional hatch. Too bad they only offered that spec for MY2015 in Canada...
