340 first incident

Managed over a year ... then sitting in the car last night and a big lad chaps the window and says (in the terminators accident) "I think my daughters scratched your vehicle"

To be fair to the big man he could have never told me as it was done while I was in the house and hadn't noticed.

What's best to do with this ... private quote or can he put it through his insurance ?

Gutted but glad he fessed up.

I always prefer going through insurance as dealing with people is very tricky .

Looking at that scratch I think half of rear quarter will be painted to match the colour which shouldn't be more than £200 , so when you have that quote let him know if he is happy get £££ up front so he can't deny afterward otherwise ring insurance .

Is it deep or hairline scratch ?

It's fairly deep it could be polished out.

Would he be able to put it through his insurance ? If he doesn't want to pay cash ?

It may well polish out or be a smart repair.

I did something that looked far worse in my E92 trying to move a lamp post that was in my blind spot and it cost me £50 at the local main dealer as it just polished out. If it had needed a smart repair, it would have been £75.

Thanks for the advice.

agree mate I was actually shocked at both how honest his daughter was at telling her father what she had done and for him coming to find me and offer to pay.

Recently had my wife's car painted where someone had keyed it.

Only cost £150 as a mates friend did it.

Peugeot quoted £500...

Well done to the lad for fessing up though.

Could be bike handle, something like a dolls pram, pretty much anything.

These things do not have to be deliberate.

It was her wee scooter brake handle .. felt really sorry for the wee lassie I have 3 and all of them have done stuff like that either to the house or our own cars .. thankfully never to anyone else's (I know of)

Last quote I got from BMW when I had the 330d was nearly 4 x the price of the body shop who ended up doing the work.. stuff like they wouldn't put the old badges back on and wanted to run and charge for computer diagnostics to fix a scratch on the boot !

That was good of him as most would just hide the fact. If you have a good local guy then can avoid bmw rip off at least.

What a decent bloke for owning up and nice to hear that his daughter also felt comfortable telling her dad about it.

I would feel so grateful that he did the right thing, restores a bit of faith in the human race
