BMW advert banned by the ASA

What a lot of nonsense!

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/n...ising-watchdog

Car adverts got a lot more boring since they weren't allowed to make the main message about speed

Apparently a single complaint is enough to get an ad banned!

I can't remember which campaign it was, but one very high profile ad seen by millions had 3 complaints, they were upheld and it got pulled.

On the basis that a company can't, realistically, be banned from advertising I'd brief the BMW marketing department to run a long-term campaign of one-off ads all based on vehicle dynamics : performance, handling, braking, overtaking manoeuvres (well, maybe); you get the picture.

For each ad that the ASA bans BMW's internal reply would be "so what, we've already placed the next three ads". Revenues from increased sales to the real driving customers will pay for any fines...

;QUOTE BMW dismissed this as ‘advertising puffery’ according to the ASA.

Brilliant phraseology there from The Bavarians.

Fuck-a-doodle-do! If I had built a huge car like that, I'd want to advertise it akin to having a 12" cock!!

BMW could well play on it by advertising it thus; 'Banned for being so fucking fast'

Quote:
The complainant also questioned BMW’s use of language in the advert’s strapline, and said that the phrasing condones driving irresponsibly
Driving any American designed car is irresponsible due to it coming from the 'John Deere' design house. Doubt they get their arse out of shape for any of their quim-mobiles.

Wonder if the ASA took exception to this home grown ad?
Dodge Challenger advert 2009

"BMW - Invading the USA like Poland in '39. Our cars are BlitzKrieg!". Prob why I'm not in advertising

Quite a good advertising strategy, one advert in a paper that gets banned and then you get additional advertising and columns inches in car magazines and other papers. They probably complained themselves.
