Whats the most reliable / trouble free car you have ever owned?
Taken off the back of this thread:
http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1378387 Mine without question, bizarely was my 2nd E36 M3 coupe, owned it for 9 years (I think?) purchased with 16k on clock, never missed a beat upto 100k, then crank seized. Replacement engine fitted, then started having more probs, pipes leaking etc from the swap....so eventually got rid, was my 2nd car by that time. Honestly the thing ALWAYS started 1st time, only things that ever needed doing was replacing the ACS thicker anti roll bar bushes at around 50k, a new set of discs and pads all around, plus change 1 leaky shock......oh and a cat / lambda sensors replacement at around 90k due to the lambda sensors had died then took the cat with them.....no warnings on OBC for those back then. So what was / is yours?

I had a Volvo S60 2.4D S manual. Bought with 30k on the clock. Bought because it was cheap - saloon, manual, base trim. And because I was doing lots of long journeys (Derbys to Edinburgh, or Newquay or N Yorks, or Anglesey or Aberdeen...) mainly in a straight line - so comfort and refinement mattered.
Kept it 3.5 years. Sold with 155k on the clock. Apart from routine servicing (Indy), a few tyres (kumho), and some brakes, I did nothing to it, apart from the notorious alarm siren failure - which I gotfixed for £400 ish..... No street cred, but no one wanted to race or cut you up, people let you out, it did 50 mpg, and it had the stuff you needed. It's the reason my dog and motorway hack now is a Volvo - but an estate this time. |

My first Mk1 MX5. Worked perfectly everyday and in every way.

53 plate Subaru Forester 2.0 petrol. It was a company car but from new in September '03 I did 90k hard miles in 3 years and other than routine servicing it didn't need so much as a light bulb. It got properly hammered too. In fact 2 of my colleagues had one as well. Roughly the same mileage each, and again faultless.

My old 2.5 Boxster. Thrashed the arse off it for two solid years and it only ever needed a rattling heatshield fixing. Epic car.

Mine. 2010 Mazda 6 2.2D sport estate. 5 years total trouble free motoring. Just service and tyres. Great car.
Wife. Mark 2.5 Mazda MX5 1.8 sport. 7 years trouble free motoring. Again just service and tyres. There is something just right about their products. Wife now has a CX3 and that's going the same way. A decent sized petrol engine in the 6 estate would seriously tempt me next time but cannot see that engine happening. |

We had a mazda5 mov thing with sliding doors - 4 years and 45k cars, really good car apart from rear tyre wear, lack of cruise control when I started using it (see above - Volvo replaced it) and the DPF issues that befell diesels of that age that didn't get up to temp enough... |

Any of my previous 4 BMWs. The only thing that needed replacing (advisory/recall) was a fuel filler earth strap on one of the E9 series.
The F31 is, by far, the least reliable car I've ever run. Way too many problems, though fixed under warranty.

Got 4K off list from new, cannot understand why there are not more about, great looks, ultra reliable reputation and good value if you play tough with the dealers. |

Actually our E89 Z4 30i was brilliant too. Had it 3 years and 50k miles and all it had was new tyres and regular servicing. No oil used, no warranty work, no faults or issues.

I bought it with 15,000 miles on it. Over 5 years I put on 115,000 miles on it. Apart from servicing all it ever needed was an ABS sensor. Also had a Volvo V50 T5 R Design. Had that 3 1/2 years, 25,000 miles. Not a single thing went wrong. No squeaks, rattles, warning lights, absolutely perfect. I still miss the engine! |

Best new car was my 1990 Vauxhall Cavalier GSI 2000 16V (built by Adam Opel). Had a headlight washer wiper relay (known fault) in the first year. Dealer had it waiting for fitting. Went on to over 100k with a work colleague, nothing more than a sensor and normal servicing.
