definition of "ordinary working people"

So following Corbyn's speech I'm curious as to who "the elite" ate and what's the definition of "ordinary working people" :

I class my self as an "ordinary working person" though I'm sure someone on minimum wage would disagree

It's all merged these days, once upon a time it was us lot in our council houses working in non management jobs.

It's not something I have really classed myself as tbh.

hevwas obviously trying not to label them working class, likely as majority of Corbyn supporters are unemployed or students.

I typed a reply to this and deleted it as I get angry with the loony left attitude to anyone who has pushed themselves to do well. Fucking pathetic and if that benefit-claimant-sympathiser Corbyn gets in I will shoot myself in the face. Twice.

Don't you just love the "BUZZ"phases, like, Economically Inactive which really means those who have given up looking for work and really can't be arsed to look any further than their next benefit payment. They are not unemployed though!

According to the shadow chancellor the other day, anyone earning over 70k is 'rich' and can afford to pay more tax!!!

That shows me exactly how far out of touch Labour are and why England outside of the major cities is predominantly Tory and will stay that way.

Unfortunately people forget that income and wealth are two different things. You can have high earning people with little wealth, and low earners with much. By focusing on only income we penalise those who have built themselves up from little vs those who started with wealth.

Oh how I wish I was extraordinary but alas it isn't true. However I doubt many of us on this forum would be Corbyn's ordinary working people, yet that is what we are.

The irony is that who he thinks are ordinary working people are those that don't actually work.

The so-called middle classes work a lot harder than the average member of most unions I'd wager.

Blair used to define ordinary working people as "Mondeo Man"

I would define it as anyone who has to wake up in the morning to go out to work to earn money to live.

If you can afford not to work "traditional hours" you can class yourself as wealthy.

That's the ridiculousness of it. I would be rich according to him, and whilst I'm not destitute, paying a mortgage and bills doesn't leave much. And even if it does, the disposable income from those 'rich' people ends up in the economy anyway whether it be travelling, consumer products, or whatever.

The man is a fucking idiot.

More tax paid means less spent in restaurants, bars, shops, gyms, the cinema, you name it.. and what would that do to the economy?

I would definitely agree with this.

some valid points on here that often get missed in the media hype. Many of my friends have cleaners etc since we're all busy proffesionals with families. if tax is raised then these are the first services that get the chop.

The middle earners in this country really get a rough deal, not wealthy enough to have fancy accountants who can 'dodge' tax (morals aside), get no supports from the state and bear the brunt of popularist tax hikes such as the new ved rules.

I think the point made earlier about distinction between income and wealth is important - I am over 50 and earn as much as I ever will but my wealth is limited as I didn't have a silver spoon, wife who didn't work, two kids through uni, blah blah. If they tax me more I will spend less - so less VAT and other duties, and the knock on effect of less spending with businesses.

I really don't know the solution but I am pretty sure I have more idea than Jez....

Nah Stalin was quite switched on (in a mental murdering sort of way), he would have likely sent someone like Ramón Mercader round for a chat with Corbyn...
