Escort Radar Idea - Let me know what you think!

OK - please let me know what you guys think of this idea. Escort Radar can be installed in a number of ways. Plug into lighter outlet, quick and easy and UGLY with wires showing. Use their smart cord (with remote display if you want) but doing so means running wires all over the place and into either trunk or engine bay for power. Most functionality since the remote works, but most effort and time (literally hours). Finally mirror tap is a 5 minute job that a child could do, but you cannot get that to play nicely with their remote.

What if the smart remote (either basic or Apple/Android) still plugged into the cigarette lighter outlet for power but was NOT wired to the detector and instead used bluetooth to communicate? It would work exactly the same, live in the lighter outlet which is a nice spot for a remote display and mute, and you could install everything in 15 minutes versus literally hours to route all the cables all over the place.

Radar detector and BT remote display would come on automatically when car is turned on, and turn off when not in use. You could even, I suppose, have an extra USB port on the remote in case you want to plug in another device to charge there.

Thoughts? Am I smoking crack or would that be great?

One thing I don't know since I am no tech expert, would something have to change inside the radar detector or could you have an interim item between mirror tap and detector that would be BT enabled and handle talking to the detector with commands.

I hate my 9500xi dangling cord all over the dash and I don't want it permanently affixed to the mirror either. I wish it had a lithium battery lasting 24 hrs of operation and the remote connecting with BT. Then once a week I would charge the battery overnight and done with it.

They would have to redesign the detector to support what you're suggesting.

Personally I just use a 9500ci that is installed into the car... Along with a Valentine1 on a blendmount, connected to my phone via bluetooth to use V1Driver. And then an AntiLaser Priority setup for lidar.

... I live in Ohio, it's all necessary.

It's a 30-minute install to run the power cord down the A pillar, behind the glove compartment, pop up the center console, and wire into the ash tray area cig lighter. I have my smart power deal/mute switch just to the left of the "ash tray". Easy as pie.
