I have a confession ...

Well as it's Eostre and all that jazz, I thought I might confess something.

I have been frequenting VW Garages and checking out Golf R Estates.

I am pretty certain I will be ordering one either in next week or so, or when I get back from Asia trip (admittedly a bit of an IF there lol).

I even joined a VW forum (I did shower afterwards).

If anyone is interested, will be going for Tornado Red, Black Pretoria wheels (19's), Dynamic Chassis, pano roof, electric seat, black mirror caps n some other bits.

It's looking around £4K discount.

So likely selling or handing back my 330d come August / September.

Additionally wife has a GTI clubsport test drive next week, bloody women.

Golf R's are a very sensible choice these days sir, massive savings can be had on them.

Cracking looking motors, plus VW do great quality interiors, I really can see the appeal of them.

Hope that doesn't mean we are loosing you from here good sir?

Nah I will be sticking around.

Actually started one up in the dealership today lol.

Wanted to check out the reversing camera, so had to start the car and obviously the camera works better if you Rev the engine a bit lol.

Very nice. Pretty much a full house for the spec. Have you gone for leather?

Looking on Autotrader, looks like you are going to have a rare car, no Tornado Red estates on there at all. I'd personally go for the blue..

This will be year two.

We will likely keep the pug as well.

She fancied a Scirocco, however sense prevailed

Brigand, is it the jewel like interior drawing you to one?

Was a watching vid on the new 2017 Golf R, seems it has more power and torque and a few other bits and bobs, looks good.

Appears to be deemed the best all rounder of the hot hatch world.

What do they drive like? Do they feel fun and agile?

Am I right in thinking that the Mk7.5 R has an Akrapovic exhaust as standard as well as the jewel like interior?

No the Akrapovic exhaust is a £3k option.

Great all rounder the Golf R, picked up ours brand new last June and it's by far the best car we have owned as a great all rounder, still thoroughly love driving it.

I like the Golf (mrs has a GTI pp) but its looks are ruined by the wagon IMO.

Reckon you'll miss the 6 cylinder effect too ?

You're buying a car from the VW cheating lying scumbags and all the other things you said ????!!!!!

Seriously though I wouldn't buy one, I would lease. There were cracking deals on the estates recently which no doubt will come back.

Yep from those lying twats that only sell cars to Chavs.

Yes looked leasing, having a chat with a dealer on Tuesday, they believe they can sort the same spec cheaper via leasing.

The only problem with leasing tends to options, as they usually push things up a bit.

However, will see what works out best.

Yes and still fucking ugly too (from the back or 3/4).

And yes I'll be jumped on for saying it again, but deal with it, it is. They have never done well making the golf an estate in the looks department ever.

Not interested in the Leon?

I have a test drive of a Leon Cupra ST 300 next Sunday.

With the Cupra I am looking at around £8 discount, however the kit fitted to the Cupra is mainly older stuff.

The face lift R gets new kit.

Agreed it's an ugly fucker.

That's a bugger but I guess why it's the cheaper sibling.

When I was shopping for the m140 there was no difference in tech between the r and the cupra, which came with lots more kit as standard, but we do live in a day where the tech makes a difference on near identical cars.

I've had more compliments about the looks of my R estate in 6 months than I ever did in the last 2.5 years of F30 ownership. Didn't expect that to be fair...

Good car though it is, I have a feeling they were taking the piss about the looks

I still can't look directly at one without first pepper spraying my face.
