Facelifted 911S now official

The MY2009 997S will get 385 hp, 310 lb/ft of torque, direct injection (resulting in better throttle response and better fuel economy.), LED tail lights, 20mm (lower) Sport Suspension and Limited Slip Differential (option), 7 speed PDK with launch control, improved Sport Chrono for better track use and a bunch of finishing touches too include a large 6.5" touch screen, I-POD and Bluetooth. Considering that the car weighs about 3131 lbs I would say that the 911S is back in the game.

But without orange peel, gas guzzler tax or 3704 pounds of heft.

Besides, base price will likely be $85K, but who's counting.

2008 M3 Coupe  [8.00]
As a current 997S owner, and soon to be m3 owner, all I have to say is ... I am going to stop paying attention and go back to obsessing over the M3 before I hear anything about the updated 997 that makes start to doubt myself.

I just have to remember this though - Last week when I took my Porsche in for service they gave me a KIA to drive for the week.

Ok. I feel better now. I remember one of the reasons I wanted to switch to a BMW - better service here in town.

Cheers

It has rear seats; for amputee children.

Porsche had to do that. They are getting passed by the competition (I know, "what competition"?) Did they give the Cayster more power too?

It sure will perform great. Price is a major issue, and I assume they won't be as eager to hand out the discounts they have been in the past with these new uprades for '09. For comparable equipment, one will most likely pay $20k more than an M3?

They should.

The Cayman could easily be a better car. But Porsche doesn't want to out-do the 911. Its like they put effort into making sure the Cayman won't out perform the rear engine 911.

Different vehicles altogether! I couldn't live with a 911.

Probably closer to $25k.

Looking forward to hearing more about your car when you get it Devo. Last night I was at a car meet in a car freak's house, and a GT3 Cup and a GT3 RS showed up. They sounded incredible as they drove away--at redline! And, there was an old slant nose turbo with 490 whp, which sounded like it was about the tear itself apart the whole time.

I would be interested in an improved 911, but the price is getting too much for me, especially with the options I'd want, but sure it will be a great car.

Those cars are incredible!

About two weeks ago, I had my first chance to "fully" test drive a 2007 GT3. My dealer bought one back from the owner. I was so close to buying it, but wanted to wait for the face lift info. Anyway, what a great driver's car. It obviously lacks the low end torque but when you get her into full song, she is an animal.

I finally officially ditched the GT-R idea and am waiting to spec the MY2009 911S. I know I am going with the 20mm lower suspension, LSD, Sport Exhaust, Sport Chrono, Sport Adaptive Seats, Sport (Short) Shifter, Aluminum Gear Shift Lever (Yes, I am sticking with an old school shifting mechanism.), Full Leather (Dash and Doors) and XRR wheels which wear 305mm rear rubber. I hope to have it by Oct at the very latest, maybe late Sept. Still love the M, I just can not justify an M and a 911S. So, my 335 will have to do.

They are definately getting expensive. Porsche's margins are so high.

I love the latest Porsche engines but I haven't yet taken to the latest facelift tidbits, particularly the rear taillight treatment. It just looks different for the sake of being so, not necessarily better, and perhaps even worse.

I know what you are saying, but I have been looking at it for so long now, I have already grown to like it. A before and after comparison makes the current model appear old; imo. But, to each his own. I like the revised front very much.

Porsche should re adjust their prices to the current inflation and most importantly the new competitors on the market offering so much more for so much less.

Well just how badly do you want a porsche?

Hell you could probably get 10 grand off AND they'd fit back there better....

J/K, hopefully that is obvious, never know on the internet.

Is the displacement still the same at 3.8l? 310 lb/ft (420Nm) of torque for a 3.8l NA engine is pretty impressive.

Considering how various generations of M3 and 911 Carrera fair against each other, the updated 997S should be slightly faster than the E92 M3.
