Gtechniq G5 glass coating

So I bought some of this because I read some good things about it.

Nowhere, even on their website, had I seen this warning that is written on the bottle before I bought it..

Quote:
G5 is only recommended for vehicles only driven at less than 40mph
Seems an odd stipulation, I presume it's going to be okay though. Anyone else here use it?

Yes, I've used G5 before, it's a good product, as it pretty much all the Gtechniq range

They do two products (G1 and G5) depending on how much hydophobic action you want.

I believe G5 has a shorter lifespan than G1, but is easier to apply and top up, but wipers will degrade it quicker. G1 is more involved to apply, but will give longer protection/run off.

The 'warning' on the bottle is in regard to how it sheets water, you willbe fine

Cool cheers, I just thought it was an odd thing to put on the bottle.

I would have thought water dropets disperse better at higher speed. maybe it's a safety get out clause?

I just tried it.

I take issue with Gtechniq's description of "Easy application". I mean, yeah, it's easy to put on but It's a bit of a bastard to polish off.

The cleanse bottle in the Gyeon View pack is a pain aswell. Its a white polish which I guess gets all the oils etc off before applying the repelant. It hardens almost instantly and take forever to get off.

Gives really good results when all done though.

It won't last two minutes on windows with wipers. Not much longer on door drop glasses either, depending how often you roll down the windows. Still going strong on the rear window of my F30 though.

Preparation is key. Clay bar and then abrasive glass polish followed by some kind of spirit wipe gives the G5 the best chance of bonding to the glass.

Generally there are the two versions and are geared to urban or mororway driving so speed related.

If you spend most of the time in low speed areas dont use the higher speed version as it will not bead the water to run off. The motorway type has less 'slick' so relies on the wind more so will last longer.

I always found that the 'glass polish' was always a pain to buff off by hand, so used a foam pad on my random orbital polisher to apply it and polish it hard then wipe off. Then you have to clean the screen with IPA to get all the residue off before you apply or you will have white specks in the micro stone chips ( that you didn't know existed).

Once super clean the product is easy to apply & buff.

I applied it to my side and rear windows about a year ago and it's still going strong!

Or you could just use your normal beading polish or detailing spray on the glass work ( all except wipered glass ).
