Gearbox remap
Has anyone from the UK successfully mapped their gearbox?
I've been looking at the thread, which seems to be very popular at the moment! http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...+flash&page=25 Just curious if anyone here has done it on a 325D? I have the cable, just pondering whether it's worth the £160+ to do it |

JF Automotive do a gearbox remap/flash.
I took my 335i to their workshop in Maidstone Kent & the cost was £195. If your not local they can sell you a dongle thingy that I believe you plug into the obd. |

It's getting some good reviews on the main thread, really tempted to give the stage 3 a try and see how it is. Works out cheaper than driving to Maidstone.

I've successfully mapped my 2009 E91 335d with the stage 2 map. Certainly an improvement over standard. Not sure I feel it's worth what I paid for it but I get the fact that there's been a load of work to get to where it is now.
You can check compatibility for free by just downloading the app and connecting to your car (if you already have a cable of course). |

It's an improvement in all modes tbh. In M mode the shifts are quicker and paddle response is quicker too. I'd like to try stage 3 but I don't want spend that much just to have a go. It would be good if you could upgrade to the next map but just pay the difference between the two. |

'fraid so. If you pay the £104.99 that enables you to read the TCU and then you can create and flash your own maps without paying any more. If you want their own pre-made maps then yes, you have to pay extra on top of that.

After doing what's been done to my 335i I am considering updating the software on my gear box, BUT as the car has been mapped. BMW will wipe your current map taking every thing back to normal while they update the software, some thing they seem to do and cant do just the gear box alone...... I spoke to JF Automotive, had a nice chat and they also quoted me the same £195 to carry out the flash/update on the gear box, BUT £300 if I wanted them to send me a tool that plugs in to I Presume the OBD port so I am going to book a date with them shortly. I don't mind travaling and they just deal with the gear box I did get a quote from Cartronics https://www.cartronics.co.uk/ and they quoted me over £400 for the same thing, looks like JF are priced right for my wallet. |

If this is true then I wouldn't use them. A bespoke mapping designed for our gearbox should be able to deal with this.
You are better getting the Alpina flash done as it has the same restriction on build date and is basically free/very cheap.

Not sure if JF flash would work on a 2006 , that would be interesting to find out from them.

If they can do an earlier build date car then it's more tempting as does mean there's been some work to get over the older mechatronics unit and then flash it. Otherwise I'd have just done the Alpina flash ages ago for free or very little outlay.
