Is there the end of 2-doors coupe on the horizon?

apparently that what BMW and Mercedes guys think.

BMW thinks that Grand coupe works well so sooner rather than later we can see 2-doors coupe gone.

I don't think BMW will make a 2 seater coupe, like the Z4 again, it will be convertible only.

I suspect the 6 coupe and convertible is under threat too.

Then why are they making 8 Series Coupe/Convertible? I don't get their strategy.

Because they can charge more for example a 850 than a 650 and a 8 series convertible/coupe would be aligned in the market with the S class coupe generating far more money.

The rot has already started. Every year it's more difficult to but a two door hot hatch.

Focus RS, AMG merc, Honda Civic, RS3. all five door only. Even onthis forum members tend to opt for the GC version of a 4 series. I blame kids. i think we should limit production to one per family.

Not many people buy even 6 Series Coupe, so i bet 8 Series Coupe will be even less popular.

But, i understand BMW needs to build it to compete with S Class Coupe. Otherwise, Merc will be the only one dominating the market.

Better not kill them off.

Still anyone who says 'oh no' and hasm't bought a 2 door coupe or 6MT recently is not helping in these types of matters. Jiggy dollar is all that counts to BMWcorp. Maybe the off halo car but sales is king.

There is also in this article that both BMW and Mercedes think they have far too many different types of chassis and have to reduce them. Z4 replacement is already being prepared together with Toyota so it is difficult to figure out what time horizon they are talking about. Anyway I think it would be said not to see coupe anymore. The fact is GC is getting more popular now similar to Audi A5 sportback or A7. Mercedes doesn't follow the trend as yet.
I think the main problem are parking spaces. All of those are so narrow that 2 door coupe is a nightmare to park and get out of it unless you have remote parking option

That is the big drawback with 2 door cars but I think the assisted parking makes it worse because it always aims for the middle of the space. When I park it's always a fine call between having enough room to get out but not being so close on the other side that someone's going to dent it.

I also find that moving the seat back makes life a lot easier as the difficult bit is getting my right foot out the door in a confined space.
