E90 tire suggestions

Hey guys,

I'm pretty new to the tire game so any help would be appreciated!

I have a 2011 E90 335i and plan on upgrading to some 19" PSS summer tires from the stock run flats. Anybody have size suggestions on stock sport suspension with a staggered stance?

The PSS ( Pilot Super Sports ) are now out of date, the new player from Michelin in the performance summer category is the Pilot Sport 4 S. They have better comfort on the road vs PSS, more dry grip VS PSS, and the best part, they cost LESS then a set of PSS.

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...Pilot+Sport+4S

Sizes: 235/35/19 and 265/30/19, you will sit 3-4MM higher then stock because of the increase in sidewall height, but you will have 10MM more rubber in front and rear.

If you want a cheaper option, but still a high performance summer tire, check out the Potenza pole position S-04

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...+Pole+Position

Same Sizes as the OEM, or you can run plus 10MM front/rear if they make it.

If you want something more track / auto cross focused, check out the Bridgestone RE-71R, Great autocross tires, and insane amounts of grip for a streetable tire, will only last 1/2 as long as S-03 and 1/3 as long as PS4S

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...Potenza+RE-71R

Run those in OEM sizes, 225/35/19 255/30/19

Oh, i actually thought the PSS would be even cheaper now since the new PS4S came out but I guess not.

Thanks for the detailed reply, I think i'm going to go with the PS4S with the size you recommended!

Actually one more thing, you said that i will sit 3-4 MM higher because of the increase in sidewall height but isn't the sidewall height smaller compared to stock?

On tire sizes you have 3 numbers, lets take a 255/30/19 tire

255 is the width
30 is the aspect ratio in a percentage
19 is the rim size

To find sidewall height in MM, multiply the width by the aspect ratio as a percentage

255*.3 = 76.5MM sidewall
265*.3 = 79.5MM sidewall (.11 inches higher not noticeable)

265 will fit fine on stock setup and should NOT rub, im running 265 without ANY fender modifications

Here is a tirerack tech article on how to determine tire size:

Ahh yeah totally forgot about that. I forgot the middle number was the aspect ratio and not directly the height of the sidewall. Thanks for the info !! I really appreciate it

If you still want good performance (maybe 90% of a PSS) the firestone firehawk indy 500 has gotten very good reviews and are very inexpensive. Personally I would stick with PSS/PS4S though.

Agree, great tire, but I could not believe how much less tread width they have vs PSS in same size. I went with PSS...may try the indys a later date

I just changed from RF to PS4 on my E90, you will be in for a nice surprise. I used one of the RF as my spare.

Nice how do you like the PS4s? I was going to get a set, but couldnt resist picking up some r888r's how do they feel on the road, strongly considering these for my next set of tires.

They're exactly the same as PSS, just 5% better in every way.
