JB4 Install Help

I just purchased a used JB4 from our classfied section. EWG version. '14 335i Auto.

Can someone tell me if there are more than 2 connections in the engine bay? TMAP (rainbow) and MAP (brown) correct?

Also I see there are 2 identical brown MAP connectors on the harness? Which one should I use? They are both in the same area of the vehicle MAP sensor location.

Also, since I have the EWG version, I do NOT need to connect the red (power) and black (ground) wire, correct?

Finally, the OBDII engine side connector is missing, but there are two POSITAP style connectors back to the board side harness. Green colored wires.

So...How do I know if the unit is installed correctly? How do I use it? YouTube videos show E90's using sterring wheel buttons, but I have an F30 and this doesn't seem to work.

Thanks members!!

I have PWG and am not real familiar with EWG, but in giving a quick look at the install guide it appears that the red and black wires are deleted. Not sure if that means yours is a older model or something different. And I would think the brown wires are for Map sensor and other for FF. The f30 JB4 is controlled by the BC button on the steering wheel stock. Refer to instructions--you hold the button and the turn signals should flash and that will let you know at least you have it hooked up.

I have the same year and model as you, but my JB4 has a total of three connection points; it includes the FF connection. You most likely have the older model without it. As all the connection points, there should be two plugs. One is male and the other, female. These plug directly into your OEM plugs.

Try referring to the following PDF:

I believe I have it connected correctly. Two total connections in the engine bay, Rainbow to TMAP and Brown to MAP. I'm not using the FF connector and of course I'm also not using the PWG connector. I have the OBDII attached as well. I had some trouble finding how to use the BC selector and run through the menu. I did find a helpful YouTube video that is worth sharing.

I have it set to MAP 2 and I can definitely feel a gain in the butt dyno. I purchased the car with the MPPK and MP Exhaust so that is my butt dyno baseline. In Sport Mode it definitely has more grunt. I have a USB cable that I haven't tried to use yet.

What is the major benefit of the USB/Laptop capability? Is the Bluetooth add-on worth it?

The USB laptop gives you a log. I don't use BT. Many people use it and like it but for how often a log is necessary might not be worth the cost. Definitely hook your car up and do a log and post it on N54tech.com.

You can do a log via Bluetooth on your
Phone just have to buy the jb4 app. I'm favorable to the rev 3 BT kit tho it works great and is definitely worth the buy and so is the app. And if you have a cell phone holder of some type installed in your car you even doing better with it lol .

Sounds like you have an old version of the unit. Maybe post pics of what you actually received.

The rev 3 BT kit/app is the way to go. Make your life easy, dash values, map change on the fly, user setting setup, no usb cable setup, etc..... The only thing that I have to use the steering BC button is just to open/close the exhaust flap, which I leave it open all the time.
