Painted Sills
So I have picked the car up today and had the sills painted body.
I got a lot of push back on painting them for some reason, they said they have never painted the sills before for anyone... They then said they would not recommend painting them as they might peel..... so I showed them the fitting instructions which states that they can be painted at customers request Anyway they are painted and look great but they have only painted the top of the sill and not the underside. Should they have completely painted them? Surely a fully painted sill is less likely to peel and have problems? I'm not fussed really just thought i'd see what other dealerships have done. |

Pass on whether they should all be painted
When I worked in sales, we used to offer painted mudguards. Always advised the ridiculous cost because they'd end up ratty after a month's use |

I've got a photo from the paint booth which shows the sills at the front with paint on fronts and backs from what I can tell so it looks like they've painted the whole thing. I'm no expert but I'd have thought having a line where the paint stops would make it more likely to peel, surely one chip on that line would break the line and lead to the paint coming away? Whereas a solid paint coating would just have a chip surrounded by solid paint? :

Side sills?
I had these painted EB2 on M235i and 335D they were just as robust as any other part of the painted car. Looked much better IMO. I would think stopping at a 'point' or 'line' where there is a paint to no paint line creates problems vs just painting the whole damn thing!? Apols if its not this bit you mean though! |
