New hesitation encountered when 330 is floored

My son's 330 with about 600 miles on it, as of late hesitates when he floors it. It kind of bogs down and does not jump forward. This is a recent development. It used to jump forward when you floored the accelerator while moving. Thanks for any input.

Do a search for kick down, there's a whole thread about this issue.

Thank you. I found an excellent thread under the term, kickdown. My 545 has this problem also. It must be a BMW steptronic characteristic.

You let your son do kick-downs with a brand new BMW that only has 600 miles on it?

but yes. Conclusion came down to BMW's steptronic characteristic. Sport mode responds better, so do that next time.

Also make shure he ( and you ) are running top quality high octane fuel.

If the octane is too low the ECU will pull back the timing when you floor it and the engine feels bogged down.

Dont skimp on fuel octane

Another approach recommendd on the the e60 board is this:

"DSC and DTC both kill power. They typically produce a strong feeling of nonresponsivenss upon flooring 5ers. This feeling can be overcome by turning both DSC and DTC off or, alternatively, pressing the pedal to the floor smoothly and steadily."

only, then you really don't get the response that you really want when you floor it...

If you cut these off, wouldn't it be unsafe for someone to drive in this condition especially when flooring it? I guess this depends on driving skills. Was there any other mention of avoiding the "lag?" Thanks.

I did some tests on my 545 because we all seem to experience similar driving characteristics on both the e90 and e60 related to kickdown and the steptronic. Turning off DSC and DTC is an incremental help. Sport mode is better than regular mode. I think that the best solution is shift over M/S then downshift immediately putting the steptronic into manual mode then doing kickdown. That gets rid of the hesitation.
