Connecting to CAN bus

Though I post seperately see if anyone can shed some light. Have F30 2014 September build. Doing few retrofits and one of of them is a cemara.

However stuck on tapping the canbus. The OEM instructions point to FEM module and A173*8B plug and to tap cables comingfrom pin 51 /52.

Sods law my car does not have any wires to those pins. So case is try to work out what pins part number are used and order some or tap somewhere else.

Can anyone advise where else can I tap Can1 High and can low on my car. Also confirm the colour of the cables as I heard they are not always Orage/green and Green for CAN1

thanks

Hi magic77,

I actually just went through the process of tapping into K-CAN (A173*8B pins 51/52) and noticed the same thing. I own a 2014 435iX but it may be the same for your 335i.

In my case, pin 1 is at the bottom of the connector (closest to the wiring bundle)- rotated 180 clockwise.

FYI, pin 1, 18, 37 & 54 are engraved on the connectors.

Hi thanks took the connector apart and counted the pins and 51 and 52 are not populated which is odd.

Hi magic77,

Did you reference pin 1 at the top-right or bottom-left?

In my case, pin 1 was on the bottom-left so pins 51/52 (green and orange-green wires) were near the top of the right single row 18 pin (grey) connector.

See attached Rheingold A173*8B pic and rotate clockwise 180 degrees.

thansk everyone. Jus to confirm the 173*8B is the black plug. As that one has no Green and orange and green cables going to the plug. Which according to the diagram above is weird as there should be.

Do I have the right plug??

Cant unplug it right now as away from home and no tools to disconnect battery but here are the wires that run to the blak plug. Coud it be as I dont have the relevant addons on the car it meant the wires where not needed Should I therefore just tap using pins direct into pin 51 /52.

However on another post came across thsi picture and its same case as mine

Could I in this case maybe tap the 34 and 33 cables on the same plug as alternatives if I cant get the pins to modify the plug

In the wiring diagram you only see that the 2 wires are connected with 51/52 if the camera, tire pressure control or trailer module is installed.
If nothing from this equipment is installed, so there are no wires at 51/52.

Please don't connect the 2 wires on the same plug!
The pins 33/34 are on A173*7B (plug next to it).
You can try to connect it there.

I think you also can try to plug the 2 wires in the 2 empty holes at the plug A173*8B pin 51/52 by using bushing contacts.

And yes, you have been at the right plug.

Great at least I'm not going crazy. Thank you very much , that is such a useful picture will help a lot to many

Thats good being at right plug I think using proper contacts to populate 51 and 52 means not using the clip on connectors but proper links, will be more reliable.

Its weird as car has TPMS so seems tyre pressure control is somewhere else.

Any idea of the part number for the bushing contacts. I think trip to dealer to get a few and job done. Then just coding oh joy

Hi magic77,

The bushing contact part# is 61130005197.

Regarding the tyre pressure control, since your vehicle is a 09/14 build it will not have a separate RDC controller. FYI, this functionality is built into the DSC and the radio remote control receiver is used to pick-up the signals from the wheel sensors.
