M2 2017 or wait for COmpetition
I have an M2 coming in 8 weeks or I can pass it up and be the 1st to "maybe" get the dealers only Competition M2.
What would you do? What do you think the mark up will be on the Competition if the dealers been asking $5k+ for the M2? Should I wait? |

They'll probably mark it up even more, although if you're seriously looking for a straight M2 you should be able to find one at MSRP.
If money's not a huge issue, wait for the CS/CLS/whatever they call it. If you can't afford a potentially $75k car, look for other dealers that are playing ball on the price. |

Always wait for next model. It will always be better until it is released.
It will also be cheaper for you.

The M2 Competition will be a MY19 and extremely limited in production so there's a very low chance you'll even get one compared to the already-hard-to-get M2.
The M2 Comp (at least here in Canada) is expected to be priced the same as a well-option non-comp M4 FWIW - that's about $100,000 CDN. |

If money is an issue, make sure you can afford the likely price of the car you are waiting for. There are a lot of wishful thinkers on here hoping for the Competition at $13K bump from the regular M2. I think that is unrealistic. My guess is $75-$80K in the US... and gmzanatta's intel seems to agree with that (~55% above the regular M2). Keep in mind there are two model year price bumps as well as the Competition bump to be accounted for. |

I consider trading a base m2 in for the cs, but a private sale will probably be better as I expect dealers will try to take cars in trade for $45k. Oh, if your dealer is marking up the m2, your cs order is a joke anyway, because the dealer will try to rape you when and if they actually get a car. |

Germans on 2ertalk.de are rumoring that MY18 brings Competition Package. One claims even that his dealer told him that. |

Where is anyone getting the idea of an M2 CS? BMW trademarked it, but haven't seen any evidence of production plans. Even our local source says he doesn't know and it may actually be called the Competition instead. It does look like the Competition model will come first and it could very will be produced this year.

As for the LCI I'm pretty sure it's gonna be: headlights, taillights, new idrive and digital speedometer (as a paid option), so same things as in M4. Also hope for something like ZCP in M4 but without power/technical adjustments but optical like exterior bits (wheels/brakes) + interior (seats/alcantara/buckets) I know it's far-fetched in general and not as important for M2 but still I'd happily pay more to have some nicer interior with alcantara bucket seats inside |

The M2 inherits LCI changes from the 2-series, not the 4-series. I'm wondering why you'd think they'd do otherwise.

VAGs approach and strategy is clearly answering their needs with their FL changes (virtual cockpit), VW with gesture control and I'm counting on BMW to also adapt and follow the trend also in lower tier of their lineup. Last edited by Benef1cient; 03-19-2017 at 10:40 AM.. |

I agree BMW should match price point features with other auto makers to maintain competitive edge. But that will likely not mean feature parity between 2-series with 4-series. Even if technically possible, BMW traditionally hasn't even offered the option of feature upgrades to match higher tiered car specs, esp w/ electronics: e.g. driving assist features, stereo, adaptive suspension. If they thought it'd make them more money to provide optional feature parity, they would have done it already right? Maybe the digital dash is considered a 2-series feature now, but I wouldn't assume that an M2 gets it because the M4 got it.

Time will tell whether only the M2 variant will get it, or also the base LCI M2 (stock or optional). The technology exists and rolled out. 4er LCI instrument panel:

Get the M2 and then if you can get an M2 CS, trade in your M2. Dealers are paying top dollar for used M2s, so this way, you can't lose.

That is what I am doing - as part of the deal - I got the current M2 at MSRP and am #1 on their list for the M2 Competition when it comes out. That one will be at market (I hope it is only a $5 above MSRP).
Either way - what a great time to be buying a new car - so much great performance from the M2, the Ford RS, even the Mustang 350GT and a used CaymanS. We are all lucky. |
