Smile 07 E92 N54 Motor Swap

Hey guys newer around here but active on a few other bmw forums this is my first e9X body style bmw and I've loved them for awhile just decided to get one after selling my e46 and e36. i worked at bmw for awhile so I've driven them all and driving this 335 was a blast.

About the car: Picked it up in Aug for really cheap from NC thought it needed turbos because of the reduce power code so i replaced those and the code still didn't clear so i then found that the car had no oil pressure and there was metal shavings in the oil so motor needed replaced. I ended up getting a motor for cheap with 38k miles on it and end up having to change the oil pan and a few small parts along with the radiator to get things to work right. Just finished doing the install a few days ago and i must say its a bit of work but definitely worth it, the first start on the new motor was yesterday but couldn't leave it running long due to the rad not being on. Im now waiting on a new oil cooler and Rad to come to finish the build up, then I've gotta put the front end back on and should be all ready to go, i took the liberty of upgrading some of the parts while i had it all apart. I upgraded to RB inlets and burger tuning intake and cabin filters and dual bovs a charge pipe silicone vacuum hoses. I also upgraded my headlights to DTM style halos and painted the inserts and black chromed the projection shrouds.

Next comes my interior dye project so stay tuned for that but that will be in a few weeks or so i wanna enjoy the car for a little bit and give my truck a rest.

On with the pictures anything you guys have to ask I'm open to help or answer , this is my first time doing a motor swap on a bmw and it was a little bit of a mission lol.

Im trying to upload pics but won't let me for some reason ill try again

The whole cars underside was filthy subframe all my parts were covered in oil because the previous owner did not fix the OFHG so it leaked everywhere I end up power washing and degreasing all of the parts off.

Also found out why the car wasn't getting oil pressure when we changed the oil pan there was this rubber gasket stuck all inside the filter in the oil pan that was all ate up so I'd assume that's why( shown in the third pic)

Also got a few carbon extras and some new fenders and m3 rep bumper , can't wait to get it all together

Nice!

When going with DTM style, i recommend you add eye lid to cover the gap at the top of the angel eyes.
It looks a lot better when its covered

Another cleaner option would be to put the eye lid on the inside.
It needs to be Carbon fiber or else it will melt

That rubber is actually the engine belt that got sucked in through the front crank seal. That's what happens when the oil filter housing leaks on the belt long enough and the belt comes apart. Seen it a few times now.

That's interesting I was wondering what the hell it was it's not very big that's really good info to know I will have to tell my dad I was completely lost I just assume that something had dropped inside the motor after the last oil change because after looking at my service records my car seen some dealership for a routine oil change and not long after that it was all downhill

Hey guys , I had about 2 hours before work today so I put the headlights on , had to Also rewire my dtms, my rebar was missing all the nuts from the previous owner ????? so I got new nuts. I got the driver new m3 replica fender fitted and I love it already, also just sat the bumper on the car with a few bolts holding it on just to get the look and I love it can't wait hopefully tomorrow I'll have most of it all on . My new hood should be here Thursday and the way it's going I'm hoping Friday or sat I'll be ready for some paint

The fitment on the fenders were legit to me also I'm very impressed

I believe that the engine builds prior to 01/09 are 6 bolt and after that it's 8 bolt correct? So if you had an 08 you would need an 07-08 engine and if you have a 09-10 you'd need an N54 from those 2 years.

Are you going to need to do any coding if you're just replacing the motor ??
