MPSS or new Conti ExtremeContact Sport?
Debating on whether to purchase the tried and true MPSS or try the new Conti ExtremeContact Sport.
Tire sizes 235/40/19 265/35/19 Some say the MPSS are discounted because of the MPS 4S are out, but I haven't really found any reduced prices online. Prices may vary depending when you click on the link, as supply and demand may change, but this is how much they are as of right now. Michelin Pilot Super Sport on Tire Rack $1,095 Conti ExtremeContact Sport on Tire Rack $984 I'm not interested in the MPS 4S at the moment, as they're more expensive and a little heavier than the other two. Comparisons: HTML Code:
235/40/19 | 265/35/19 Weight Tread Width | Weight Tread Width | MPSS 23 lbs. 9.2 inches | 25 lbs. 9.3 inches Conti ECS 22 lbs. 8.2 inches | 25 lbs. 9.4 inches MPS 4S 24 lbs. 8.5 inches | 27 lbs. 9.6 inches |

If you do any research (AKA googling) you will find that MPSS consistently sits on top of the max performance summer tire. It's the closest thing to a track tire you can buy while still getting daily drivability.

Cannot speak for Continental ExtremeContact Sports as these are different from SportContact 6. |

Michelin PS4S all the way.
But they are all great tires in the end... |

Yea maybe, but I have no experience with them and I know what I have researched. I don't think either tire will make that much of a difference either way. They are both making some really good tires these days.

This reviewer admits that SC6 won all measurable metrics, but says he prefers MPSS based on the way feel drives on the edge and the feedback given. Now, skip ahead to his MPSS v MPS4S comparison where he claims the MPS4S loses that feel, but no one will notice so it doesn't matter. So it mattered 5 months ago...but doesn't matter now. Of course, he also admits Michelin flying him 10k miles to Palm Springs, putting him up in Ritz Carlton with World reknown Michelin Chefs and big swag to test the S4S. Reputation (and consistency) matters. |

Can we please get back on topic?
I am specifically asking for opinions on MPSS vs. Conti ECS. If you don't have anything relevant of value to contribute, leave your comments to yourself or pm each other. After 10 replies, not one has been helpful. Thanks. |

Sorry OP, but this post will not have any sort of tangible input because the tires are too new. There aren't any comparison tests to refer back to so all you are going to get are opinions. I would say go with the tried and true MPSS and wait until you can get more data on the Contis for a possible future purchase.

As thus, your sizes 235/40/19 265/19/19 should be cheaper than $1100 and cheaper than the MPSS. Further, the $70 off also applies to the MPSS, if that is route you are determined to take. Last edited by Kabrich; 03-11-2017 at 09:47 AM.. |

^^ Costco gave me soo much hassle to install a non-rft tire on a car with factory rft's. Not saying to avoid them but be prepared

I say go for the contis dude.
1. better treadwear 2. better price 3. lighter 4. same or better performance to me its a win win with just those factors. unless you are a heavy tracker it wont make a huge difference in my opinion. Save yourself some cash that's always a plus! |

Great, thanks for your input.
Theoretically, let's say the prices come down for the MPSS and they're the same price as the Contis. Would you still choose them? As you can tell, I'm still on the fence. Just wondering about the tread width (contact patch) for the fronts. There's a quite large 1-inch difference between the MPSS (9.2 inches) vs. the Conti ECS (8.2 inches) for the same 235mm section width. The Contis must have very rounded shoulders. I wouldn't be surprised if they look stretched on 8.5 inch wheels. They'd probably look more like 225s. Last edited by mineral_f30; 03-14-2017 at 11:00 AM.. |
