Inconsistent Rumble?

Okay.
So this is weird.
I was driving this morning, no problem.
Then leaving to pick up a buddy and go to lunch from work, there was a strange deep rumble that created a pretty decent vibration that I could feel in my seats.
My clutch has been slipping ever so slightly, but the clutch felt the same through it all, no more slipping than usual. The shifter wasn't violently shaking. My buddy said he could hear it from near the mufflers. Barely audible from the front of the car.
It was also raining, however not a heavy downpour.
The tips are slightly angled up, I doubt that much water could get in there in such a quick amount of time, especially when it happened then stopped for like 5 minutes then reoccur again.

Have any of you guys experienced this?
The car is going in tomorrow for a clutch replacement.
Indy shop is going to look into my new ordeal at the same time.

If you have a hunch, let me know!
I'm too anxious for my own good.

What sort of rumble? In very cold and damp weather, my 330i will idle a hair lower than normal, and it feels like an unusual vibration/rumble. Turning off the A/C compressor and giving it a touch of gas will usually wake it up.

It was a deeeeeep tone and it was felt in my front seats driving through town this afternoon-
Oddly enough, it did not happen driving back to the house (it also had stopped raining... coincidence?) It happened whether the ac was on or off...

My wild guess is the tires. Any cupping or unusual wear? Failing that, I'd look for play in the wheel bearings, they'll make a bit of a growl when they wear out.
