Help with wheel/tire question
OK, I guess I am not as smart as I thought. I purchased a beautiful set of OEM BMW wheels with Goodyear winter tires (RFT), 17" in size. Excellent condition, beautiful, for my 2009 335xi.
I brought them to Friestone to install and unfortunately they did not quite clear the brake caliper. I guess the 335i has large front brakes. These are the wheels part number: 36 11 6 775 621 7JX17 ET:47 On further research, I guess these were designed for the 1 series, 128i and 135i. Is there any way to make them fit? Would spacers help? I am clueless obviously. I think if I had a 328i or 330i they probably would fit as their front brakes are both smaller. :-( Any advise, would be appreciated. Would love to figure out a solution. How do I guarantee that other 17" wheels would fit??? |

Te offset of these wheels at the problem. A set of 12mm spacers shou1d make them fit. It would be better if you could make sure. You could buy some washers and use 2 wheel hangers and see if the wheel clears the caliper.

Thanks! I might as well try. I'll order spacers and see.

One other question, why 12 mm? I see different sizes available. How do you determine what one needs?

Stock wheels usually around 35mm offset. I suggested that you verify the proper distance buy test fitting them with some washers

I think this helps explain to me why my wheels didn't fit and why your suggestion may work - thank you! So, by adding the 12 mm spacer it will make my wheel's offset go from the original 47 to the equivalent of 35? Last edited by dankatz; 02-12-2017 at 09:24 PM.. |

Make sure to get extended lug nuts with the spacers to if they don't already come with them. |

I actually ordered a set of 15 mm spacers. I used the online tool and the 12 mm spacers would be a tight fit. I didn't want to risk it. I'll let you guys know how it works out. The kit I ordered through amazon has the extended lug nuts. It is interesting that they only come 2 to the kit. I am was not sure why not order 4? I suspect that the rear brakes would clear the rotor. In any case, I ordered 4.
