N54 service life question

All,

Sold my 335i a few years back and am looking for at another BMW. This one is an 08 535xi wagon, with 160,000 miles! And..... Six speed

Can anyone shed some light on the common high milage failures?

The car has an excellent service history. Turbos were replace at 130k, hpfp replaced under warranty, Oil pan gasket replaced, and regular maintenance at BMW. Not sure about the clutch. Otherwise the car is super clean.

Oh jeez, I personally would stay away from it.

Things I would look for at that mileage are all the gaskets including the VC, OFHG, OC.
Check vanos, pcv, and any other potential common oil leaks.
Check the VC for cracks.
Check pulley's/belts.
Spark plugs/coils/injectors?

I feel like there are too many things to keep an eye on at that high mileage. Are you getting a really good price on it?

$7500, probably

I have other cars and to drive if needed and plan to upgrade/tune. I usually like to do my own work (stress relief) so I'm not super concerned with little projects.

It's this guy or spend 15k for something with low miles. I live in a city with street parking so cheap isn't bad. Don't have to care as much about all the cosmetic damage, kid mess, and dog mess.

A 6spd wagon is pretty cool! If if was maintained like you said, might be alright. Recommend you get a pre-inspection done and look at the carfax.

The Carfax is great, mostly serviced by one dealer. They didn't want to send me the records but walked me thru the history and the big stuff.

Since 2013 it's had a walnut blasting, new turbos, oil pan gasket, water pump and some other little things.

I'm probably going to roll the dice. (assuming the price is right. )

I wouldn't be worried about it! The injectors, solenoids, gaskets, coils, etc. etc. etc. are all going to fail regardless of miles. Well maintained or not it will always needs that stuff

Lol you nailed it. Landed at $7250 for the wagon. Hope I don't hate myself for getting a manual. But hey, it's rare right?
