F30 335d vs M235i

Hi all

I've just sold my E90 330d and am down to these two models as a replacement.

I'm retired now, will be doing only 5k miles per year max including two trips to the highlands and back to Cheshire.

Any thoughts from you experts

Cheers in advance...

Thanks,

Other than space, I've not heard a bad word about them to be honest...

5k pa, no reason to think of diesel , surely ??
With 335d, that's AWD so that can make sense if it's a daily driver on a demanding drive but for just 5k it will dilute the fun of RWD for no good reason.

Only things really in favour of 335 is it's better looking (subjective) and it's going to have more space , but then if you're thinking M235i, I doubt space is an issue.

Therefore M235i is best,

How about a 435i? Best of both worlds.

Really depends....

on where you will be mainly driving and how you drive.

If you're mainly on winding single lane and like a 'spirited' drive, go for the M235i

If on the other hand its going to be a few long trips per year on motorways and you like effortless cruising, the 335d will do nicely.

The 335d is a beautiful car to drive...cool and unruffled with oodles of torque, but not a lot of personality....the M235i on the other hand is a fun, hot little chilli-pepper of a car that sounds glorious but that still takes long trips in its stride.

If you do get either car, make sure you get adaptive xenons....there's simply too much performance for anything less

Congrates on your Retirement, some thing I look forward to in the years to come...

It would be the Hot Chilli Pepper if it were me. Some thing quick and nimble and comfortable at the same time.

I'd not even bother with the diesel.

Buying new or used?

the new 2/3/440i engines are pretty nice if new.

I reckon it's going to be the M235i.

I can pick up an AUC 10k miler for about £25k fully loaded, a new 240i is coming in at £35k ish spec'd up through coast to coast, which is too much for me.

I do miss that big straight six sound from the days of my 130i. That was an awesome engine, so the 235i will do nicely.

I've now got goose bumps!!

Couple of guys at work have M235i's. Great looking car and both rave about them. It's a great motor and if you can find ine with some toys, then all the better. Grey with red leather looks great.

Without question it would have to be the 235i.

Very very capable and sorted cars, how you could even be considering a diesel for that mileage I don't know

Hi
Mainly because I've had the 330d for a couple of years and have been very impressed and happy with it?
Running costs aren't an issue, but I want a replacement with 'soul'. The 330d has that in bucket loads and I will really miss that smile on my face every trip... if I make a poor choice.

Ah man u won't miss ur 330d at all, I've moved from a 335i with N55 and DCT (same engine as the 235i) to a 330d and I miss it badly, the noise from that pertrol engine is intoxicating, power delivery is smooth, hate the torquey, back in the seat power delivery from the diesel, u will love it for sure

Good choice would like to hear what it's like once you've had it a while.
Am thinking I'd like one as my next car

Thanks, I'll let you know how I get on.
One bonus of being old is the insurance quote for the 235 coming in at £275 with Admiral!
