Am I supposed to have an oil cooler?

So I was looking at the aftermarket oil cooler thread and was just curious about my early 2007 build 335i.

I've always noticed I had the vents on the passenger side front wheel well. And I've read about the oil cooler having 2 lines going from the oil filter housing to really tell if you have one (which I don't have).

If I am supposed to have an oil cooler, would it be as simple as replacing the housing and buying the lines and radiator?

It's my understanding that 335i's came standard with the oil cooler after 3/2007 mfg date. We have a 2007 that was made in 3/2007 so no oil cooler. I ended up buying a newer oil cooler housing with the ports and retrofitting a cooler myself.

I think this link for an oil cooler for sale is all you need.

Oddly you have the grill for the oil cooler but you don't actually have the oil cooler.

You can buy the conversion kit which is in essence as you state 2 lines, oil filter housing and the oil cooler heat exchanger.

However, I'd personally just go to an upgraded simply because the factory oil cooler isn't that good.

Options like the ER sport oil cooler have the conversion kit option so it's a 1 stop shop.

Cars equipped with 18inch wheels or bigger were suppose to have the oil cooler, that was the best way of judging if it should have it or not from what I've been told.

My 09 Sport with 18's had the oil cooler.

My 10 sport with 17's doesn't.

Early 2006 and 2007 is a whole different ball game with the oil cooler. They didn't really think to start adding them to mid to late 2007. If you had an oil cooling issue they would retrofit it for free if you continued to exceed 250F and reach limp mode.

Taking off your plastic engine cover in any weather above 5 degrees celcius and using a good quality 5w40 will help stabilize temps whether you have an oil cooler or not

My understanding isn't pre March 07, only manual transmission Sport pkg E9x had oil coolers. My September 06 Steptronic does not.

What he said^^^...
I was in the same boat and just retrofitted one in. There's a DIY here somewhere.
