Camera system error

Hello guys,

My camera system recently started acting up.
I get errors in the dash when I activate it, be it reverse camera, top view or side view.

The odd thing is that (errors aside) everything seems to be working just fine.
All the cameras display pictures and none seem to have anything wrong with them.

I hooked it to Rheingold and discovered the following faults were logged.

I tried to clear the faults, but the CA8C0x errors won't disappear.
Moreover, the 800Bxx faults will appear again.

Any idea on what could be wrong?

Very strange.

I retrofitted top view and side view cameras.

I never had any of these errors once everything was plugged in and correct.

I would maybe try to do a code reset (via esys) on the module.

Strange indeed...

I will do a code reset, although I have to admit, I'm quite skeptical that it would work.

There's a ECU reset in Rheingold, any thoughts on that?

The errors stating "not learned" make me think that the TRSVC might need to be reinitialized, which should be in a service function somewhere in rheingold. Sorry I'm not home at the moment or I would look for where its at.

I was thinking of the same thing.
I was looking for an "initialisation" command but I can't find any.
There is however, in the ECU diagnostics, querying the learn status.
When I select that, the status returned is "running" and while it's doing that, the cameras do flash every few seconds.
Once I return to the previous menu, they go back to normal (as in non flashing)
The only other alternative is to trigger an ECU reset in Rheingold, but I'm afraid that it might erase some parameters that I can't put back :|

Would not be too concerned about params you 'cant put back'.

When I retrofitted, the module I bought one from a F34 so it needed to be default coded. Once I did that, no problems. I also flashed it with the latest firmware and coded my VIN to it. All with Esys btw.

I think the learning is automatic, I did see those pop up but they disappeared after a bit and have never come back.

My car has this exact same issue.. some 2 weeks ago when I put the car into reverse I heard a gong with a message on my idrive and kombi about the camera system. I checked all the cameras and all seem to be working correctly.

This is still ongoing.. everytime I turn on the cameras, either by backing up or pressing the button I get a gong with the display messages. As soon as I turn off the cameras the messages go away...

I'll have to download Rheingold to see if I'm getting the same faults ..

I was going to mention the issue to the dealer at my next service appointment since everything seems to be working ...

Welp since you appear to be under warranty, they need to fix this. I would find that annoying as I at a minimum need to reverse out of my garage every time I leave my home

They will probably update your whole vehicle as this sounds like a software issue.

I had the malfunction error as well brought into Bmw thinking it was rodent problems (cold weather). But it appeared to be corrosion so they replaced a camera and wire.

Well, hope it's not that for me

The error didn't appear since then, so I hope I'm good.

I got a 2015 640ix GC and a week later I got the camera error regardless on which camera though they all work fine. Its been like that for 3 weeks. My car is not under warranty.
So can someone walk me on how I can use Rheingold to see what the errors are. I also have E-sys. I used E-sys to do some FDL coding but that's the extent of my knowledge. If someone can guide me on how to work E-sys and/or Rheingold to get rid of the errors or find out whats really wrong.

Its been 3 weeks and all cameras work fine

Thanks

With Rheingold is quite easy to see the faults.

Once Rheingold connected to the car and identified it, the first tab that it opens should resemble this one:

There you see all the ECUs that have failures or that aren't working.

In this particular case I had issues with the ACC which have since been resolved.

You can click on the "Display Fault Memory" button on the bottom right and you'll get to the menu that I showed in the beginning of the thread.

There you can just click "Delete fault memory".

Unfortunately, in my case the faults just reappeared after deleting them so that didn't solve my issue. Worse yet, the faults just disappeared after a while on their own, so I wasn't able to find the original cause.
My guess is that the culprit is the sudden drop in temperatures here in Geneva...

I got my cameras replaced no less than 4 times.
Everytime it rains or there's a drastic change in weather it acts up with errors.

Finally the car went into extended warranty period and I am getting excuses.
Side Camera failure and Camera system and and even rear camera system messages can be red herrings.
Took it upon my own and found a fix:

Open the front wheel well flaps.
Locate the connector to each front side camera.
push tab with a small screwdriver and disconnect harness.
Use hair dryer and aim at connectors for about 1 minute.
Reconnect, start car, test out the camera and park assist buttons.

On my Bavarian technic I can see the current draw going down from 80mA to about 60mA.

Worked like a charm for me (till next time it pours I guess).

Hi,

I have been having this error problem for the past 2 years. Everything works fine with no issue other than getting the error regardless which camera I use.

My f30 got this issue from 2 days ago, camera works, but have this error warning. The dealer checked and seems cameras are good and no sign of water in the connectors. No clue at all.

So I been having camera errors from around Mar 2017 though all the cameras been working.
Since my car has no warranty and cameras are working I didn't bother to do anything about it as I was sure a dealership visit to attempt to fix it will cost a fortune.
Few months ago my front side view cameras (on the front bumper) show grey screen when i press the button. So since i didn't use them much (unless parking and there is a curb in front) and my heavily used cameras have been always working (rear and surround) i didn't pay much attention.
Yesterday I was free and decided to tinker with the car (nice weather) to see why I keep getting those errors, so I went and looked at the driver and passenger side front side view cameras and below what i saw

Driver Side

Passenger Side

So the previous car owner was in an accident that impacted the driver side and that's how they fixed it. My question is that a reason to throw errors on all cameras and the passenger side view camera not working (grey screen). I took the electric tape and it seems there is wire connection.

I just want to understand how big of a problem I have. The passenger side wire plug side seems good

Any input is greatly appreciated
