BMW i8 seat belt in f22

If I buy the original blue belts of a BMW i8, could I install them in my bmw F22 and that they work correctly?

Shouldn't be a problem someone a while back did a custom interior with blue piping and had aftermarket blue belts installed. Didn't report any problems if I recall correctly.

For what it's worth that may be a less $ option for you. Would assume anything from an i8 would be expensive.

Agreed. I looked very briefly at this but when I say $1000 price tag I stopped looking at blue seatbelts.

I do think it could looks sweet though. I like the red/orange ones Mercedes does in AMG sometimes

I looked but could not find the thread. Someone definitely did a full on custom interior with different quilting on seats, blue trim, and blue seat belts. I am pretty sure he just bought blue seat belt straps online and had them installed with existing hardware.

That said call IND and ask them they did a 2-series project a while back and I am absolutely certain they did blue seat belts. I do not believe they went with the ones from the i8 must have been similar to what I described above.

I didn't do a ton of research but googled and randomly picked someplace. Check this link you can get cobalt blue for $15 a yard. Would assume you need 2 yards per belt with some leftover so you're looking at $120 in materials. Install no clue, could be super easy or a giant pain in the ass.

I would be careful on swaping the I8 seatbelt into your car.
Make sure connectors are the same and it mounts correctly as well.
Pyrotechnics for the seatbelts is not something you want to be messing with.
Even if it is the same connector, dont be surprised if you get a Airbag/seat belt warning message on still.. Not saying u will for sure, but it is possible.

I have asked at the official BMW dealership and the 4 belts of the BMW i8 cost 500 €

I think the price is right. The problem of buying the materials is the installation, which is a headache as you say.

I'm trying to figure that out about the connectors, I could not find anything at the moment.

For $500 it's absolutely not worth screwing around with aftermarket. I assumed it would be $500 per belt.

you might be able to have the stock belts re dyed, I would avoid any swap as the belts, tensioners, ext are all designed for the f chasis (location of seats, positions to pillars, and so on).

Just keep in mine dying may alter the mechanical properties of the belt itself. I would hope that nobody would try to bleach it, but that could degrade the fibers.

Have you seen the optional M belts with the M stitching up the side? You could very easily remove your belts and have any borderline competent upholstery shop stitch in some blue "pinstripes" on your stock belts. Not exactly what you're looking for but a subtle splash of color would be pretty slick. Check out the M belts if you can see them in person think you'd be surprised it's very subtle but definitely noticeable and a nice touch.

Yes that's exactly what I was talking about. Saw those on the light robins egg blue M3 my dealer had in stock. The belts were really sharp.

The stock i8 belts will have a different belt carrier and won't be a direct bolt on to the F22.

We've done similar conversions on projects where we re-web the stock F22 cores with a different color:

Material itself if fairly cheap, but the labor to get it done properly isn't. Since you are dealing with one of the main safety devices of the car I wouldn't suggest DIY'ing the belts
