M2 show n tell - SF Area?

Hi All,

I am quickly getting serious about ordering an M2 this spring and I have yet to get a real feel for the car’s capabilities, features, size and transmission. Dealers are hardly able to let me poke around on the lot nor get any real seat time. Is anyone in the San Francisco area willing to let me inspect and ride along in their car?

I can offer seat time in my Z4M coupe as an exchange if anyone is even friendlier and lets me drive it a few miles. Feel free to reply or PM directly

Having owned both, I highly recommend any M2 owners near the OP to get some seat time on the Z4M

I'll be honest. When I read the title quickly, I thought it said: M2 scratch and smell.

Any takers? Was hoping to leverage the BMW community and avoid a $375 Turo rental.

375 is cheap compared to a 55k car. Besides driving it beats looking at and riding in one.

Besides the stiff suspension it looks like a decent candidate. Truthfully it's not nearly as impractical as the alternatives we have either owned or are considering - FRS, Miata, Z4MC.

Rebooting this search now that the rains have largely stopped - so far nobody south of San Francisco has showed interest. I know you owners are out there, help a fellow BMW enthusiast out!

There is an upcoming meet on 3/25 morning in Fremont. Show up and be nice. I am sure someone would offer some seat time and even test drive.

With all due respect, you have a 228i mpsort, you can go to a dealer and drive a m240i, may I ask what else you're looking for?

It's going to be faster, handle better, and look better.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll see if I can swing by.

Given the rave reviews, it would seem the M2 is greater than the sum of its parts. I would like to see first hand if BMW has dealt with the snooze fest steering, long shifter throws, less than confidence inspiring suspension and non existent sense of occasion

None of those qualities can be gauged from a 228i or 240i experience, hence I am looking for real seat time to validate my intent to purchase.

Pity I only saw this now. There was a driving school weekend at Laguna Seca a couple of weeks ago. There were 2-3 M2s in the classes but maybe more interesting for you 2 instructors with theirs. I rode along in one of the instructor's M2 for a few laps. I think it was essentially stock except for wheels and tires. Next Golden Gate chapter driving school is not until November I think. Mine should be here end of June.
