Air Vent Temp Wheel Missing

I really liked this feature on my E60, F10 and F30

It looks like this has been removed. Is it hidden in idrive?

Or 2

If you are one of the people that use the wheel just program it on one of the quick access buttons. Then its one click an a turn of the Idrive knob.

The Idrive way allows your passenger to set their own preference, unlike with the single wheel
Also clears up space in the dash for other systems

Exactly... Complicated! I like this feature since E39 (however on E60 LCI it also was regulated from the menu). It seems that this inconvenient solution is just less expensive in production process... Pity

(edit: I haven't noticed E90Fleet's post. Thanks for the explanation, this does make sense).

How often do you actually adjust it?

Doubt it.
They have quite a space problem behind the dash when you fit all the top systems.
No way to fit one for the driver and one for the passenger

On the 7 they had space to put in a digital selector instead of going just Idrive.

Either way, its one of those items people either love of hate
So some will miss it, others not

In winter rarely but in summer quite often. I don't like too much of AC's cold wind at my face

I use all the time in Houston when you literally will have 4 seasons in one day.

After using it now for 4 days or so in the G30, I can say that it actually works well in practice...

I set the electronic setting to centre point (i.e. not hotter, not colder for legs and face) for driver and passenger.... and indeed the temperature setting works quite well.

What this means is if I have it at 20 degrees C and it gets too hot, I turn A/C down a degree or so, and it is comfortable.... I don't need the thumbwheel in other words...

Personally I think the thumbwheel was there because the air-conditioning temperature did not condition the air properly (it was compensating)... now it does... my 2 cents worth

Wheel didn't exist in the E60. Then they brought it back for the F10. Now they got rid of it again. I don't know of any other automaker that has this complicated setup... and it's for a reason -- it's complicated. I prefer just to have a single knob for temperature control and never understood BMWs dual knob approach (really, why should one set of vents have its own temp control versus the other two sets? Makes no sense....)

It's a great feature. I like the air on my face a little cooler than the other air. But once set don't have to change much. In the E61 it's in the I drive settings as people have said. I recall in other cars we've had that if you're heating the car up it's either no air on the face or boiling hot air. V uncomfortable.

I feel bmw made a big mistake in removing or making less convenient to use. I use heat on my car and change the wheel to medium to blow room temp air vs hot air at my face. sometimes even put on cold when I have the heat on. They removed because people didn't understand how it works. If you couldn't understand how it worked, go buy another car. I have been driving BMW for 20 years, it has always been on my cars. Now I have to go through I Drive to adjust, what a pain in the ###.

Maybe they put it back in iDrive like on the E60 because too many people simply think it's dumb to have two knobs to control temperature...? If no other automaker offers a feature (like Saab's key next to the gearshift), you can bet it's not something most people care about -- or want.

Yes, you can adjust it in the iDrive.

I thought you were going to stop at 'Saab'...

I have the manual one in my F30 and I use it all the darn time. So I understand OPs concerns.

Ditto, I set the normal temp and adjust the wheel all the time every day. In Melbourne it can be 35 during the day and 15 at night...that's Celsius.
