Woodcliff Lake, NJ/Detroit, MI – January 13, 2017… The all-new 7th generation BMW 5 Series is already earning accolades from the industry as it recently was awarded the Best Designed User Experience Award from EyesOn Design. The EyesOnDesign Awards are the officially-sanctioned design awards for the 2017 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), honoring the best production and concept vehicles making their worldwide auto show debut in Detroit.

The all-new BMW 5 Series won the judges votes by featuring a broad array of technology and design working in perfect harmony. The new 5 Series makes use of a new user interface (iDrive 6.0), BMW Gesture Control, the latest generation of Head-Up Display, Remote 3D View and an improved Voice Control with natural voice input, marking a new era of personalized connectivity. The BMW 5 Series is the most innovative BMW 5 Series to date, combining unique driving dynamics using Remote Control Parking and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems clearing the way towards semi-automated driving. “BMW has long been a pioneer in advanced Human Machine Interface (HMI) technologies and the new 5 Series brings together everything we have learned in our 100 year history. It is truly an honor to receive this prestigious award from EyesOnDesign for the Best Designed User Experience on the all-new BMW 5 Series.” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO of BMW of North America.

The new Panamera seems to have a more fluid interior design. They didn't see the need for a floating and disjointed looking center screen. Not sure what to think of the objectivity of various awards these days.

But no head-up display or gesture control.

While I would take the Porsche over the new 5 all day everyday an equivalent Porsche costs 2-2.5X the 5 series.

Perhaps it is BMW's combination of physical buttons and digital interface that wins over the all-digital and haptics Panamera experience. Even if the Panamera is prettier to look at.

Jason! It's time the new 5 series needs its own section.

Thanks I already found it. I didn't see it in the drop down earlier.

It's missing on the front page though.

I, too, assumed the light color brown was Cognac, but because the interior looks so good, now I have to ask: Are those Multi-Contour seats?

The reason I'm asking is because I've not been particularly impressed with BMW's "basic" Dakota leather. The leather in the photograph above looks great, but in my experience the Dakota leather in the 3-Series feels only slightly better than what Mercedes used to call MB-Tex, which definitely isn't leather. Since the interior is such an important aspect of enjoying an automobile, I have no problem paying for nappa leather and/or purchasing the multi-contour seats if those two items are significant improvements in quality. I'm not necessarily looking for something that is soft or supple. What I want is something that feels like, well, genuine leather.

Yes, it's multi-contour seats. Dakota Cognac with contast stitching, code LCRO. I think the Nappa leather feels much softer and with less grain than Dakota.

Design does not equal user exerience
