Widest tire I can run

Was just wondering what tire width possibilities I can run for my cars OEM rims style is

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=36_1288

Planning to get the widest tire I can without modifying the fenders etc as I do not much know much about it. Currently on 25/45/17 as the car came with it, any information would be provided thank you

What wheel size with offset, suspension mods, pre-lci or lci, body style? All these play a factor. I have 305s out back. Some guys have fit 255 front. I have 245 front.

Regardless of all that, he's still limited by an 8" wide wheel.

Look around OP. Some guys have done 255/40/17 on stock wheels (which is as wide as you can safely go) and it looked really meaty most anything between that and the stock size should fit fine.

If the wheel you posted is going to be used front and rear 255. However I f you are using an 8.5 fotr the rear, 265. If you are using 8" front and rear however inwould suggest 245 on all 4 so you have a square setup and can rotate.

Sorry I'm not much of a tire guy , more into performance and cosmetics. 8 inch wheel on all 4 tires, LCI, suspension wise everything stock ,

So 245/45/17 all around is possible ?

I have been researching this and it looks to me that 8.5" is the widest square set up you can do without rolling fenders or altering the alignment to get the front wheels to fit.
18x8.5 wheels would fit a 225/40R18 tire, maybe 255/35R18
17x8.5 wheels would fit a 225/45R17 tire, maybe 255/40R17

You can go wider in the rear if you want staggered set up, which tends to produce more unwanted understeer, in my opinion, especially if you have less than 300 hp.

You might be able to fit slightly larger tires, but the smaller tire is what Tire Rack recommends for a square set up and the larger is what BMW uses for that width on the rear when using the staggered set up.

You would want to keep the offset around 30mm to 40 mm.

Here is a recent discussion related to this:

You'll want a 245/40. But yes, a 245 will fit on an 8" wheel.

Not 100% correct. Wheel offset and tire size also partially dictates maximum wheel width fitment in the front. It becomes a balance between wheel width, offset, and tire width. But E90s can most certainly run wider than 8.5" wheels in the front.

Youre kinda in the middle of 40 and 45 profile. 40 is 24.7". 45 is 25.6" oem is 25". I run 26". Speedo is correct at about 26" so smaller = more speedo error, lighter, worse mpg, better acceleration, less sidewall, better handling, rougher ride. Up to you but either works.

Okay so running 245/40/17 all around is possible I guess the only difference will be the tire dimension going from 45 to 40 which isn't a big issue. Correct me if I'm wrong

Thanks again for all the help guys sorry I'm such a major noob on tires lol

Not just possible, recommended (although Fundguy mentioned his preference for 45 series) in my opinion. I personally like the ever-so slightly shorter sidewall (looks better and will flex less) as well as having an extremely healthy tire choice in that size.

Don't apologize, this is one of the ways you learn.

Where do you live? Driving style? For temps over 40F and spiruted driving Michelin PSS can't be beat. I'd have those as summer tires and a second set for winter if i lived in an area with changing seasons.

Vancouver, Canada right now its 0 degrees Celsius so 32F , it'll be like this till February and from there on growing temperatures, usually the max we get is 86F during the summer times. I don't do much cornering usually just people going too slow in the left lane and the occasionally red light launches , just wanting to get the best all season available because it rarely snows here

The comments I have observed from those running wider than 8.5" on the front always say the camber and/or the fenders need to be rolled. Maybe with the perfect offset or something, but the majority cannot do it without adjusting the camber or fender rolling, as best that I can tell. It is not offered by BMW on any OEM set up or for sale by TireRack, admittedly they are not pushing the limits, but they must be doing that for a reason.

I have 9" +24 with 235/35 up front and do not rub with stock sport suspension and stock alignment specs.

Good to know. Are those 18 or 19" wheels?
