Which car to drive?

So I live in Middle TN and am planning to make a trip up to Chicago next week and debating on which car to drive. I'm sure there is an app for road conditions which I will have to find at a later time.

My question to the community is I have the choice between the 13' X5 Msport that has BRIDGESTONE DUELER H/P SPORT RFT tires or my 09' 328i that has CONTINENTALCONTIPROCONTACT SSR. which would be best to take on the trip? keep in mind the x5 is on 20s and the 328 is on 16s.

You gave the tire brand but not the tire type. The X5 AWD would be the superior vehicle, but it should have all seasons or winter tires. Neither car should make the drive with summer tires, but if both have summers, the AWD would be better. Be aware that summers get very slippery in cold temps and are not desirable and are even dangerous for a trip like that. Even all seasons are slippery in snow and ice, but with AWD, they are acceptable in all but the heaviest snow. Winter tires get softer in the cold weather and are much more desirable.

I live in Chicago. Don't drive like an ass and either car will handle just fine. The problem right now is icy roads and below freezing temps, the worst of the snow was this past weekend

My folks live in Chicago, I'll be heading up there this weekend.

My advice is 100% take the awd vehicle; if you have summer tires on it, rent a car. It will snow and you will have a bad time otherwise.

If you are not a seasoned veteran with snow/ice conditions, I'd avoid taking the RWD sedan as well.

Both cars have AWD. we do get some snow and ice in TN and it sucks since they don't clear the road. I just wasn't sure if either would preform better than the other. I'd of course like to take the SUV since it has more room and heated seats but want the family safe.

both have the all season run flats on them and both have the office option. sounds like I'll be taking the x5.

I've found my way around so far this winter with RWD and bald summer tires, and we've got a foot of snow already. If their both AWD take either, you'll be fine

The X5 is a heavy car which can sometimes be even worse on icy roads. But either will be fine and being higher up will feel a little safer with more room. Sounds like the decision is made so this post was a waste anyway

I tend to agree, new tires will be on Monday! Cars been fine as long as you avoid stopping, sharp turns, hills, parking lots and that snowy strip between the lanes

Take the X5 more room and I would feel safer and more comfortable, 328i seats get uncomfortable after a while, for me at least....
